can someone explain to me the gilt dial??

i know there are so many dials but i keep hearing about gilt dials and maxi dials. thanks so much

"Gilt" means that the lettering on the dial is not white but more yellowish. You see the gilt dials on early GMT's and Subs.

The gilt dials were discontinued in 1966/67.

"Maxi" means that the hands and hour markers are larger than usual. For example you see "Maxi Dials" on the Submariner LV (green bezel), YM and GMT IIc.

You also see maxi dials on for example the Submariner 1680, so the idea of the maxi dial is nothing new.
