Superdome

Can anyone tell me what serial range 1665s came with the superdome and when Rolex switched to the lower profile dome.

If I'm not mistaken, they all came with a T39 superdome originally..........and many of the current low profile plexis you see were installed during service. An expert correct me if I'm wrong??

The one Im looking at must have a replacement but still looks great , its an 8 million serial so must be one of the last 1665s thought maybe they phase out the super dome by then. Maybe if I pick it up will try to find a super domehttp://www.rolexforums.com/images/attach/jpg.gif

I absolutely love this reference. When I first started collecting watches about 20 years ago, I did not appreciate it and chose to buy other watches that are now long gone. Needless to say I have seen the light.

My 1665 Great White.

ABC Watchwerks will take a T39 service crystal (authentic Rolex) and modify it to look like the original T39 Superdome. They custom make each one of these for each watch. I had them make one for mine and couldn't be happier. Very reasonable charge for this service also. Something to consider. My 1665 is 8.04M serial.

Here it is with the original superdome.

And the modified T39 after service

A working mans 16600 & 16660…

As the years have gone by I seem to have less and less of an attraction to "Shiny" watches…

Given a choice, I much prefer unpolished (Or close to) examples with the dings and scratches left untouched…

I find they give my watches a character that NEW or freshly polished examples just don't have…

Needless to say, this is not to everyones liking, but I find them irresistible…

Modified t39

So Jason how much does the modified t39 set you back at ABC
Ive recently purchased a 1665 but it has the low profile service crystal , that dome really adds to the watch IMO

I don't need them to be banged up per se, but unpolished is a must for me. It is about true condition and honesty.

BTW, Surely you can pick-out my favorite in the group. It is the one that stands out.......and it's not the blacked-out aberration. That golden patina, sweet superdome..........Rolex just can't duplicate such sweetness with their newest releases. Don't the others just look plain when sitting beside the BEST??

It sure does stand out, the way only plexi can

Ps all the beautiful plexi pics above as well!!!

Great watch. I think any and all SD are going to continue to increase in demand. The 16600 are just around the corner from being vintage. The 16660 are already super sought after and, well, we know that any decent 1665 is going to be over 10k. I can't get enough of the Sea-Dweller, hehe- great thread!
