Root Beer GMT

I’m a new member and just diving into the forum. I’ve really enjoyed it so far.

I was wondering about the Root Beer GMT. I’ll admit I previously thought that a two-tone wouldn’t be for me, but seeing pictures it has grown on me. The problem is, I can’t see one in person. So for those that have one/have tried one on:

1)How does it compare to pictures?
2)is it too blingy/flashy? One of the reasons I got my Tudor GMT is that I think the bright colors of the BLRO are a little flashy. One of the reasons I think I’m drawn to the brown bezel is it seems more understated. But this is a gold (at least partially) watch. It can’t be that understated, can it?
3)do you think this could be a daily wearer?
4) never seen the rose gold in person. Is it more pink or copper?

Anything else would also be great. Thanks in advance!

I had one

1) Stunning in the flesh, nothing like the pics
2) Not at all. It is kind of subdued, but if you do not like gold or shiny bezels, not the watch for you.
3) Yes, great daily wearer as long as you are comfortable wearing some gold. Should be very durable and reliable
4) Rolex has a special rose gold, oddly enough I find it to be pinkish on two tones, but copper looking in full rose gold. Either way it looks great, and you will love it!

If you think it looks good in photos, it looks even better in person

I've seen it & tried it on in the flesh. It is simply stunning. The way the Everose gold warms up all over the case & bracelet, it's a wow watch! I much prefer it to the yellow gold.

This is the most gorgeous TT, very classy, can go with dress up or casual.

Actually to you can go to the boutiques/ADs, they might have the exhibition model for you to try on.

Bought mine on Saturday. Warm, more subtle than full-gold. Combination works. A special watch.

Just wanted to add, this is the only two tone Rolex I would want to own. YM is the next, but I really do not love TT watches, but I love Root Beer that much. i even think it looks better than the full rose gold version!

Everyone will have their own take on this. The problem for you will be not knowing who's taste and eyesight would best match yours.

The WIS community went bonkers when the ceramic Pepsi was released. The TT CHNR, by comparison, didn't so much launch as escape. It was much admired from its launch by many, but the Pepsi noise drowned everything. For my own part, I disregarded it. I thought it looked somewhat on the dull side and I don't dig brown on me.

It turned out to be the first ceramic GMT master I saw in the metal, when one turned up in my AD's window in the Autumn of 2018. It was an arresting moment which I still remember. Even at a distance through glass, it looked stunning. The colour palette just popped. It is not as beautiful and blingy as a TT Blue Sub Date, it's handsome and sophisticated.

I was on my way somewhere else and already on the list for a Blusey, so much as I liked the TT CHNR, and I liked it much more than I had previously thought possible, it wasn't on my radar. I walked back past the AD later that day and had to stop again for a long look. Common sense cut in and I continued walking.

Back home I couldn't stop thinking about it. I decided that on a subsequent visit to the city scheduled later that week, that if it was still on display I would walk in. When I returned 3 days later, it wasn't, and I kept walking. But it was a watch I couldn't get out of my head. To my eyes it's clever in how it blends and contrasts its colours and textures. The RG adds a depth and lustre which just clicks with the bezel insert.

I got mine in 2020. It's a watch that, if described to me, would still not make sense to me, but to see it is to know, and to hold it and wear is the only way (for me) to fully appreciate how special it is.

Having said all that, I couldn't begin to tell you if you like it or not. Sorry.

Definitely go see it in person from a grey dealer or something. It is so much nicer and looks different than in pictures. You never know, you may even change your mind for better or for worse.

TT RG is very understated in low lighting and can just look like polished steel links. In bright lighting, it definitely pops but not too much.

I would say it is more copper.

I currently daily a Rose gold TT YM so it is definitely something you can wear every day.

It looks great in person. The contrast between gold, SS and dial and bezel colors on any TT Rolex is amazing. However, when you view large detailed photos on forums, it gives you kind of a false impression. Buy it, love wearing it and you’ll enjoy it for sure…

Hello! I am lucky enough to be an owner of the 126711CHNR Root Beer. Hopefully my affirmations of what others have said help!

1) I think it looks better in person than in pictures. In person, the rose gold is more muted and complimentary and the brown part of bezel really ties the rose gold into the steel and the black dial. It's very easy on the eyes.

2) I do not think it's too blingy or flashy (and for context, it wouldn't prevent me from wearing it if it was). My favorite way to style it is a monochromatic black outfit with the watch as an accent piece. It's perfect. Even as the focus-point of the outfit, it shows just the right amount of subtle pop and is not glaring or obvious.

3) It's absolutely a daily wearer! It's comfortable and easy to tell time with! I think because of the hue of rose gold, and the contrast of the brown and rose gold bezel, it lends itself to more of a daily watch with a lot of style versatility. Yellow gold can appear louder and can limit the style options, and white gold (or steel) can be styled with anything (being the most versatile) but doesn't provide the accent contrast that the rose gold does. Rose gold (especially Rolex rose gold) is an extremely versatile metal for style options. I do very much agree, Rolex has a special rose gold.

4) For me, in person it looks more pink in bright light but coppery in dim light. I do find that this color change makes for a lot of versatility.

I think this an excellent summation. I really agree with how you describe the color palette, and I respect that you also emphasize that the aesthetics are still subjective!

+1

I think it needs to be see in the flesh. Absolutely gorgeous. Especially on certain skin tones. If you have or expect to have other SS pieces it breaks up your collection nicely.

I think you'll really need to see it in person before deciding. I love it in pictures, but every time I see it in person I don't love it. I like it a lot but not quite enough to purchase it. Knowing Rolex, I'll walk into my AD one day and lose my mind and purchase it.

Any Rolex can be a daily wearer. I think the Root Beer would be particularly good for a daily wearer because the rose gold tends to blend in with the steel in certain lighting conditions.

Good luck deciding!

Root Beer GMT

Owned one for a few years, and then sold it. Spent way more time in my safe than on my wrist.

For me it was a matter of personal taste, style, and versatility. Ultimately I realized that two-tone watches are just not for me. Glad I tried one, but I won’t be buying another one any time soon.

The color palette was also a problem for me. I’m very much a black, blue, and grey person when it comes to my wardrobe and aesthetic. And prefer SS and WG watches. To my eye, the CHNR always seemed to “clash” with everything. I’d put it on a lot, then quickly swap it out for something else in the collection.

As others have said, it’s certainly gorgeous and has great presence. And just because it didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you.

Good luck.

I have photographed mine a hundred times and it always looks different, the way the gold catches the light is amazing. It’s not bling or showy imo but friends that know I collect watches always comment positively when they notice it. I would never walk away from one at list but boy the grey market prices are rising.

The CHNR is my favourite from the GMT trio (BLRO, BNLR & CHNR) I own.

It is a stunning beauty, I must get it back in my current rotation asap!

The Root Beer is amazing, pictures don't do it justice. I ended up going with a Pepsi, but the Root Beer was a close second.

I owned CHNR. On the picture it looks better than in real life. When I got it I was little disappointed and sold it soon after.

I too was skeptical owning two tone color but after contemplating I triggered and boy I am sooo glad I did. It's a beautiful masterpiece. it will not disappoint and picture does NOT justify of rootbeer. To be honest, I would rate Pepsi=> Rootbeer=> Batman.

It depends on your style and preferences. I really love the look of the watch and I understand why people hold it in high regard. However, two tone is not for me and I think I would get sick of the brown.

Thank you.

I think that every post should come with a subjectivity disclaimer, but it's kind of implied in a forum like this. Subjectivity, particularly when it comes to things like aesthetic, is right dodgy.

I was lucky to get one from my AD in December and I couldn’t be happier. Like everyone else says you have to see it to really appreciate it. It’s the only TT piece I would want and I’m not a YG type. I don’t use mine as a daily wear as I’m pretty hard on my watch at work and I prefer my stainless watch for that. I prefer to wear my Root Beer as my going out watch or on the weekends. Overall I’m very happy with this watch and have no regrets in purchasing it.

Interesting comment on the hue of the rose gold. I had the full RG GMT and it screamed pink to me and I declined it. I felt the two tone actually muted the 'pinkness' to more of a copper appearance.
