84/85 is generally considered the timeframe for the change over to WG surrounds with the normal crossover period.
I'll move this to the vintage section where it should get more play. |

The time frame is somewhat off NYF. I would agree with Mike's timeline. 1984 is pretty much the accepted time frame for the introduction of the glossy dials. I do not believe most would consider a serial number higher than 84XXXXX for the matte dials.
