5712r or AP 15400OR?

Hi guys,

So I'm thinking of making another big purchase early next year so I'm taking the time to do as much research as possible, the thrill of the hunt is actually 70% of the fun of the whole thing for me.

Anyway, what's your opinion on the following?

The pros of the AP are it's a full gold bracelet but the Patek is a superior movement IMO.

I'm slightly leaning towards the Patek because I have an all gold watch in the Sky-Dweller.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks all!

PS: I looked at the 15202 but I don't see the hype and can't justify the price difference with regard to the 15400. The movement seems to have more historical significance as opposed to being superior in itself, if anyone can correct me on this I'm all ears.

Of the two choices I would go with the patek. I would definitely consider the 15202 though, it's proportions and size I think are so much better than the 15400.

Nothing beats a Royal oak bracelet in Full RG, id go with 15202OR blue dial. the proportion is great and would be a different watch compared to your sky dweller.

next would be the 15400OR.

next would be the 5711/1R

last would be a 5712R

and i own a 5712A

If you like full gold bracelet watches, then definitely consider the 5711/1R in addition to the other watches you mentioned. I think between the AP and PP, you can't go wrong with the RO or Nautilus. However since this question was asked in the Patek section, I would say go for a Patek. If you get a chance, go ahead and try on all these watchea on your wrist before deciding.

I would say 5711/1R then either the 15400OR or the 15202OR (if you like the slimmer case) then the 5712R.

I would say get Patek 5712R, and a 15400 SS silver dial in mint condition s (about 11.5-12k)

Personal view (before you all shoot me down!!) is that full PM bracelet (especially coloured metal is just too over the top and looks like everyone is just trying to hard to be noticed) and hence I would go for the PP...doesnt matter how beautiful it may look I always feel "less is more"

I would opt for the 5712R. Don't see too many of them out there and you get a few complications and the micro rotor. My good friend has one and it looks amazing and also comes with an extra strap that is rubber I believe. The APs are awesome and they probably make the best bracelet in the business however I personally could not pull off an all gold piece. Best of luck in your decision

Personally, I think the 5712r is ugly and dated, the 15400or from a design perspective is much better. Movement aside, the 15400 is a much nicer watch, if you don't want a gold bracelet, save some money and get the 15400or on strap, that's what I did, and could not be happier.

I really like the 5711 in steel and gold, but the 5712r on leather just doesn't do it for me.

It's hard to beat AP on bracelet. 202 or 400 would be excellent choices. If you really wanted to go Patek, get the 5980 1R .

I just wore my 5711R this past weekend. It does get noticed. Everyplace I went, I would get a compliment. Patek RG is stunning. The 5980 and 5711 R to me are great watches but don't buy it unless you like to be noticed.

BTW - I love the solid gold RO in both yellow and rose gold too!

5711/1R is my first choice. Silky smooth and devastatingly dashing.

Exactly, the dial is much nicer to look at on the 15202, whereas on the 15400 it's bigger and looks a little plain IMO, and the ultra thin factor is definitely much cooler than a thicker watch, but that's just my opinion, the 5712R is really stunning as well, I have the SS and like my Nautilus on bracelet, but if you like on strap go for it...

For some people, getting the watch noticed and complimented is a good thing. Other people want their watch to be unnoticed and go under the radar.

My impression is that the first group of people tend to wear YG/RG, especially with the full bracelet. And the second group tend to wear white metal. It may be less common here in the Patek section, but I would say a large group of people in the Rolex section wear a YG/RG DD for the main reason of wanting to be recognized and question why anyone would spend that much money to get a white metal PM watch that most people would mistake for a SS.

There is no right or wrong reason in selecting your precious metal watch color, but most people have a conscious or subconscious reason for selecting one.

I'd get the AP even though I have a 5712A. Between the AP and 5711R that would be a tough choice.

Tough for me because I'm not a fan of either. If RG I would go either 5711/1R or 15202OR

I'd vote for the 5712 but you can't go wrong with either!

Best of both worlds

x2! The RO bracelet is unmatched, even by the classic Oyster of your Skydweller

5712R more versatile, less bling, moon phase and power reserve.

I'm not a fan of the 15400 due to the size. My vote is for the 5712R.

Very hard decision. Love both a lot. Prefer the 5980 on a strap or a 5711R on a bracelet.

I wouldn't want to be you as this would be a very hard decision for me. I would go to an AD try them both on and i guess ill just know which one worked for me.

Thanks for the input guys. Does anyone know if the 5712r is rare or hard to come by?

Exactly my opinion, hence why i bought a 5712r.

No gold bracelet is a plus in my opinion. Less is more!
