Mercedes GLS opinions
Considering either a GLS450 or GLS580.
Family vehicle, safety-first. Thanks in advance! |

Wife absolutely loves her 2023 GLS450.
Air suspension is too die for on long trips. Massage seating not only hits the back but the buttocks as Well! The fireplace theme activates the seat, steering wheel, and center console heaters. Great for those cold mornings. |

My parents were looking to get one. Fantastic truck, very comfortable. My Mom couldn't drive it as it was too large.

Both great options however go after the 580, you will have no regrets

My wife has the GLS 450. She drove Chevy Suburbans for almost 20 years. We had it almost a year before she warmed up to it for a daily driver. She still has a 2020 Suburban that we also tow behind our RV. After so long in the larger Chevy Suburbans, she felt like she was sitting on the ground while driving.
The GLS is an excellent road trip vehicle. Great handling, smooth ride, responsive steering and very good braking. Not bad on mileage either. I think around 17+mpg on the interstate.

Appreciate all the input.
Going to fit two car seats into it as well (middle row) and it will definitely be our road trip vehicle. |

450 is fantastic. They didn’t have the 21 580 when we got it, but fantastic road trip vehicle with two car seats. Not sure if standard or an option, but the second row window shades are a life saver with little ones.

GLS is a fantastic car in either the 450 or 580. I would personally search for one with the most rubber (smallest rim size) and Airmatic. This way it will give you the best ride you can get. My wife drives the GLE (Previous Generation) and loves it. Only issue with the GLS is some early models have issues with the 48v Battery but that has been fixed with later-year models.

Had a 2018 G63 and after 5 years decided it was time for something more comfortable.
I test drove the GLS63 and just did not care for the handling, it kind floated too much and felt boaty. I ended up with a 24 Alpina XB7 and am very pleased with it! Id say to at least give the X7 M60i a look or if you can justify it and find it the XB7

Love our GL 550
We have 2017 GL 550 as our winter beater (in addition to 2020 S560 sedan, 2017 S550 coupe and 997.2 Turbo S). The GL now has almost 90k miles and it has been absolutely bulletproof. It carries a bunch of stuff, hauls a decent trailer and is smooth as silk on the road. Not sure there would be a better vehicle for our needs. Highly recommend the GL/GLS!

Fantastic! I love the MBZ, and they are built like tanks.
I’m going the other direction, as both of my kids now have drivers licenses. I’ve been driving the GLC43 for four years, and just last week got one of the last ‘23 GLA45 AMGs. I can totally relate to the 2-car seat days! Enjoy! |
