You do know that one can use a syringe with blunt headed needles to fill up the cartridges, and you can use as many colors of ink as you like?

No Kai, I did not know this as this is my first real FP. I suppose I can purchase this syringe at FPH? I love that British Racing Green Color and that beautiful, stately blue that Ian uses. Thanks for the info, this opens a whole new world for me!

I got mine from a printer ink cartridge refill shop, and just recycle the used cartridges. Cartridge inks are a ripoff, IMHO.

Yup, but gotta be careful when filling the cartridges as their opening is very small and they don't hold much ink, so it's very easy to overfill and you have to mop up your desk...

Kai, thanks for the additional info.
My neo vintage MB144 does not have converter and newer
converter just does not seem to fit correctly. I'll give this a try so that
at least I can use my favorite ink with MB144.

Just contacted Pen City and they advised me of a new product, "Private Reserve's Ink Cartridge Kit," manufactured exclusively to refill empty ink cartridges. Ordered it along with a bottle of Noodler's Aircorp Blue-Black Ink. Noodler's also makes another blue-black, but the Aircorp version had more vibrancy. Didn't know if anyone else would be interested in purchasing the cartridge refill kit, but I wanted to pass this on.

I've placed an order for "Private Reserve's Ink Cartridge Kit" from ISellPens.com.
They have "Private Reserve's Ink Mixing Kit" too.

What a great color, Victor. That burgundy has an elegance and richness, rendering it easily understandable why so many love writing with it. I'm sorry I didn't order it, but I look forward to experimenting with different brands and color inks. For me, the ability to experiment with a multitude of is the joy of owning a FP!

Dave, that looks a great purple. It reminds me of J.Herbin, Poussier de lune only more saturated (a good thing!)

Dave, I like the shade of CARAN d' ACHE - Storm.
I like dark purple/black with purple hue.
My favorite so far is Private Reserve - Ebony Purple.

I don't have any writing sample up yet, but I did buy several inks this past weekend, Private Reserve DC Supershow Blue and Ultra Black, and Aurora Blue. I also have Aurora black on the way from FPH.

I have read a lot about the Aurora blue and it gets excellent reviews, so it was the first ink I used in the Arco (I kind of plan to make that my blue pen). It is a nice blue and I liked it after using it for a while, but it is a drier ink and it made the Omas write a bit on the scratchy side.

Ian suggested I switch it up and use the PR blue, as it is said to be a wetter ink, so that's what I did. Well, as much as I liked the Aurora blue, I love the DC Supershow! It's closer to a Navy blue than the Aurora, and it has a lovely, saturated look to it, and it shades nicely too (if I understand what shading means).

It also does flow very nicely from the Arco and the pen seems to be writing much smoother now, probably both because I've sorted out its sweet spot and because of the ink. I reallly love this color.

I inked my Chopin with the Ultra Black and I like it a lot as well. It's blacker than the MB ink I used before, and the Chopin writes buttery smooth with it. Suffice it to say, the early returns on the PR inks are very positive for me.

I'll get some writing samples up as soon as I can.

Really glad that your Omas is writing smoothly now John, I must admit that I never before thought that a change of ink would produce a different writing experience, another thing that I have learned from the fine gentlemen and lady that frequent this sub forum. Really looking forward to seeing your samples when you get the chance, I do like a black ink to look.............well black, deep black, some of the ones I have tried seem to dry grey.

Dave, it could be the ink and using it more, I'm not sure. I will say, that a true fine nib seems to be more finicky when it comes to ink and paper, and even the position you hold it in.

Aurora - Blue has been an excellent performing ink for me.
My Pelikan M800 with 18C Fine nib lays a nice wet line and glides on paper.

glad you asked Leo!
Shading is when there is more than one tone of colour to the ink on the paper when written. To get the best effect it helps to have a more flexible nib but it still will be seen with a normal nib.
Here are some examples!
Diamine Blue has tones of shading!

Private Reserve copper burst too!

As does noodlers standard Brown

Notice the different shading in the strokes of the pen. I love ink with shading, it really makes ones writting sparkle!

Ian thanks for the explanation on shading the Diamine Blue sample is beautiful. I guess your duofold has a flexible nib and that helps with the look of the shading? Great now I have something else to buy.

John I am happy to hear your Omas is loosening up. My MB is a fine nib and can be a bit erratic so I have been writing on some brown paper bags and it really has helped.

Ian, I figured that's what it was, but thanks for the explanation. I've been looking everywhere I can think of for the Diamine Sapphire Blue (any Diamine ink, really), but everyone seems to be out of it. It really is beautiful.

Hi Phillip. I think it is loosening up, and I'm probably doing a better job of finding the sweet spot also. I think you have a little less margin for error with a true fine point nib, but there's times where the Omas is glassy smooth, and other times when it's not so much. I think it's a little finicky with regards to ink and paper.

But it is fun to write with!

Phillip, the Duofold is a Jr that I gave to a friend, that nib does not have a lot of flex really, my senior special and Nakaya are king of my flexi nibs

No worries John and I am so happy that the Omas nib is shaping up, some nibs need to profile into use and especially so fine nibs I have found!

Here are a some links for the Diamine ink, one is US based, pear tree and the other up here in Canada, I can recommend both Highly!

Pear tree

Stylus in Edmonton Alberta

Bertrams inkwell (looks like the Sapphire is in stock their if their checkout system is accurate anyway!

Hope that helps!

John, I know I bang on about Clairefontaine but have you tried some? I know your a Moleskine fan (As am I) but I find it is a lot smoother than Moleskine especially with fine nibs!
