Just eat a can of beans and then fart in your luggage, no one will survive that treatment.

These units aren't to expensive, also kills dust mites, mold, tons of stuff, she blasts everything in the house couple of times a year....couches, chairs, some carpets, have to admit, good practice to get into.
We see them all the time in the ER... it’s gross but it’s not really a big deal. Open them up, clean them out.. steam if you want. I don’t even throw away my scrub let alone some tumi suitcases!

That would end all hotel stays for me. Horrifying.

Okay, I rescind my offer. Maybe those bags need to stay in SD. You did finally get to me. I didn’t have the guts to pull the trigger on all the pieces you recommend so I’m starting off by just dipping a toe a the Tumi waters. Today’s incoming.

Nice bag but I can see how down the road this could get expensive. Looks like I’m going to be an Alpha 2 kind of guy.

Oh my....I used to live out of a hotel and have seen them in "higher class" motels....
The radisson i stayed in once in Semi valley bed had several after raised the sheets up.
Ive seen them in holiday in express inn Tampa too.....
I always look now.
And yes I threw everything away luggage too!
I baked my briefcase for a few mins at 190 degrees....or just wait till get back in Phoenix and put them in the back seat in the summer heat....it will kill anything.

So, In all the research I did I discovered the key was getting everything to 122 degreees, if it’s that hot, everything dies including the eggs. I spent a while today using my heat gun and going over every square centimeter inside and out of my suitcase and my backpack. At times, it actually got pretty hot (if you see smoke that’s too hot ). Over all, I feel fairly confident I am covered. Let’s sure F*7ing hope so!!!

Hey - good work!

Now you’ve got that “decades of patina” all along the leather trim?

Going to be a long first night in the rack. But on a serious note, does that Tumi backpack fit under an airplane seat?

Staying in the desert and bugs around the place is every day life. Better a few bugs than breathing in the toxic spray some places use to control insects.
Just put your stuff in a freezer for 4 or 5 days, no need to destroy perfectly good items. I’d be more worried about getting sued by the chain for vexatious behaviour for posting this all over the place, as you have said you have done. Especially since you say no bites. I’d expect a letter from their legal people soon. You should write a book about all your calamities you have posted here over the years.

Yes, I use it especially for that reason

I suggested a few years back that you read the book Shifts happen. Interesting read.

Happened to me while staying at a Marriott, so I can definitely sympathize - it's gross!

Both heat and cold temperatures are lethal. Some hotels have hot boxes they will bake your clothes/luggage in, and you can also rent or purchase these. Faster kill times with heat. However, if you're worried about heat and your Tumi, the other option is to subject them to cold temps (0 F and below) for 4 days (such as in a freezer or outdoors).

Good luck!

I am one that is always nervous about bugs when travelling, even though I cover few miles compared to many of you who make a living travelling and lodging in hotels. While I'm not sure about how effective these items are: softner sheets, sprays that stated they kill bed bugs, dust mites, etc..

I try to follow instructions pest companies, like this one by Plunkett, provide:
https://www.plunketts.net/blog/hotel-bed-bug-check/

But, lifting mattress, and such, not so easy to do.

I have never seen on a registration form that hotels request you sign, a reassuring clause from them that their accommodations are free of bed bugs... (I guess that's a dream?)

Just a thought....what if they arrived at the hotel with you?

I don't want to make you paranoid or anything, but you never know

I am OCD and my home is immaculate, I definitely don’t have bed bugs here. I checked beebugs.com and Yelp (which I should have done BEFORE) and there are several complaints about this exact hotel having bedbugs. NEXT TIME, I am checking!

Consider it a lesson learned. Checking Yelp before a trip has changed the decision of where I stay on more than one occasion.

Checked luggage can be cross contaminated as well. Inspect your bags at arrival for crawlers.
