I live in Canada, and when searching for a coat not only did I want to be warm, but I also wanted a good warranty. After all, if you're paying over $1k for a jacket you better make sure the company stands behind their product.

I now feel confident knowing I can walk around in a tshirt with my Canada Goose parka on (yes, it's that warm) and have a lifetime warranty if anything were to happen to it. I've had friends who have had tears or stitching undone in their parkas, and have sent them in to be repaired without paying a cent. It's definitely a coat I cannot live without.

Thanks gents! Nothing to do with CG so sorry for spamming this thread. It is however warm enough for buffalo winters and quite smart looking even though I say so myself.

This time of year it really pays to have a real good coat. At this point I now have a couple different styles and when it gets colder I’m prepared.

You may also wish to check out Nobis and Moncler jackets.

When initially doing my research I found Canada Goose to be more to my liking with regards to style, materials, and warranty.

Historically Ive had some bad allergic reactions to down..don't know if its the down itself or dander remaining on the feathers. Which is unfortunate because I LOVE the look of the big parkas.

I own the Canada Goose Chateau Parka, its an excellent jacket by far my favourite.

Fit and style is perfect for myself.

I did buy a Moncler jacket a month a go and returned it, felt the quality was poor(down was leaking and loose stitching) No were near worth the 1.4k price tag. That being said I do love my Moncler polos!

Ordered a Langford parka in military green for my dad.

Should be here on Monday or Tuesday.

I just can’t seem to fit into them. XL on most is too tight on my shoulders and I’m swimming in an XXL. Oh well.

I don’t know if your aware of it or not but they do have a couple of different fits. Not sure even which ones you have tried but personally I have tried some which work better for me than some others.

Yeah. The only designs I like are all slim fit which are too slim for my shoulders. The torso is fine but too tight up top unfortunately.

I tried the expedition but the right fit was too boxy.

Canada Goose makes an awesome product. I'm not a fan, however, of their utilitarian styling. I would recommend looking into Parajumpers, Nobis, Moose Knuckles, and if you really want to flex, Moncler, for equally great coats that are more interesting from a style perspective. If you're looking for the pure utility, check out Arc'teryx.

I say this as an owner of all the above brands and a retailer of most of them.

At least at the time when doing my research a few years ago I found a good number of the brands you mentioned to be visually appealing but I also found that either the materials they used were inferior or they didn’t quite stand behind their product like Canada Goose does or both.

Common problems were either piling, cuffs not retaining their ability to remain tight or fraying, inferior fur, less fill thus not as warm, fill clumping, issues with color, inferior zippers, and not as good of warranty.

So my recommendation would not to be judge these coats on visual appeal alone and do you due diligence to see if they are really all they are supposed to be.

Thanks Dan. Of course. I'm always interested in your advice.

I'm sure I'll find another nice winter parka.

I've got an Admaral Blue Langford parka and love it. Also have my North Face that's even warmer when needed.

They've become a major fashion accessory. Love the quality, but prefer synthetic fills for a variety of reasons, including recovery from getting wet.

I was curious last year after seeing a half hour line outside of the New York store.

Their specs show that they use 650 fill weight DUCK down in mist of the jackets I was looking at.

I Dont get the premium price for this when a 650 goose down parka is $350 at Eddie Bauer. I ended up getting a long body puffer style jacket at EB with water resistant 800 goose down for $175 onsale.

At least with Rolex, the intrinsic factors make the premium for me worthwhile. CG doesnt seem to hit it for me.

I have had a Chiliwack Bomber since 2010 and the jacket is great on a very Cold day. I originally bought it for a Fairbanks, AK trip and thankfully now living in Eastern WA I get to wear it seasonally but will only wear it on days < 20F. Anything warmer than that and I find it overkill and unnecessary. Thankfully when I got mine it was ~ $500 and today I wouldn't pay the $800 or more price tag for it.

I guess I'm a little pessimistic because when I'm in Seattle and its above 40F and I see usually Asians wearing it out and about my mind wanders to the thoughts of dang wearing it just to "show off" the brand and I can.

Oh a couple quick hitters: because the jacket is down it compacts very well when packing in a suit case even if the jacket appears bulkey when worn or on a hangar. Also, mine came with a very long label that was uncomfortable and so I cut it off.

And if memory serves correct I bought through Gorsuch catalogue but I believe they can be had at Nordstrom amongst other retailers I'm sure.

Good luck

Honestly, all depends how cold you "feel"
As a kid growing up in Michigan and New York, I never button up my coat.
Was told to, said "I'm not cold"

Now I'm older, boy has that changed.

Anything in the 40s, out comes the Borden (almost same as Chilliwack)
30s or under , out comes the Expedition.
Yes, I have an Expedition in Texas
But I can walk my Dog for a 1/2 hour or more in the 20s/30s, with nothing else but a Tee shirt, and stay as warm as if I'm in the house.

Also use the Borden in the low 50s, it is what it is

Stay warm

I have the Borden and Expedition as well. I was lucky at the time because I was able to try both the Chilliwack and Borden on at the same time. I was unable to get a good fit with the Chilliwack and besides the you can take the fur off on the Borden where you can’t with the Chillieack. Different coats different fits and removable fur means a lot when it comes time to clean the coat.

Been looking for a new winter coat, I like the parka style but €1100 is a bit of a stretch for me. I'm looking at the North face goretex parka's (€650) now, always had good experience with that brand, not sure if Canada goose is worth it?
