It's your watch. Wear it and don't worry about others.

If you own that watch, and paid for it yourself, you shouldn't need to ask questions like this.

No watch.

For the benefit of putting you and your personality and experience in the interview first

What's the focus of the interview?

YOU

Not your watch, not your suit, not your cool ostrich leather GG shoes

Remove all potential distractions (for yourself and the interviewer). Being from the UK the British do a good job of "blending", which really helps people focus on your actual personality and focus on what's important instead of things.

I don't always subscribe to "if you love it wear it" motto. I disagree with that in professional settings. As an example I love navy suede tassel loafers....I WOULDN'T wear that at work!

Update: had my interview and the hiring manager actually had on a two tone Datejust lol. Could have been a conversation topic if I had worn my Bluesy...oh well.

Genuinely surprised by the responses saying not to wear that beauty. Good luck

No one notices in my line of work. In fact someone was telling me about their son's smartwatch the other day and how expensive it was. My poor old 16710.. :(

It's entirely possible that a hiring manager might be a watch geek, but it's also entirely possible that a hiring manager could see a Rolex as ostentatious, based on their own perception of what the brand "Rolex" represents to them. Then that informs their opinion of you, and maybe not a positive one.

Is it fair? Maybe not. But that's how the world works sometimes. So why take that chance?
Exactly. Interviewing people in away that allows you to make good long term hiring decisions is harder than most people realize. That bow tie you showed up in for your interview last week, it shouldn't matter but it made me question your ability to interpret the kind of company you were interviewing with. And when I went down several paths to see if you would be OK getting your hands dirty once in a while, I wasn't that thrilled with what I heard. Again, it shouldn't matter but guess what skippy..I'm not taking a chance on you and your bow tie and you'll never know that's why we didn't call back. My gut says you won't thrive here.

Bummer! That’s why I would wear what I like at an interview. If someone didn’t hire me because of my watch then I probably wouldn’t be happy working there.

You were incapable of having that conversation without it on your wrist?

Lot of considerations here. Do you consider this a high paying job? Are they going to be able to see you if you choose to drive up? What about the type of car you drive? On the common projects sneakers, are we talking, the Original Achilles Low at $400 or so a pair or are you going for a different upscale look like LUISAVAIROMA?

What about your resume and educational background? If you attended an Ivy League school, could that be off-putting? If you are asked about your experience at that school what will you say? If you didn't go to a desired school what are you going to say? What job level did you achieve at your previous place of work? Did you progress to more senior positions as expected? Were you held back at any time? I think there is a lot to address in an interview. Instead of the Rolex would you consider something more upscale than an Apple Watch? How about a Breitling Exospace B55 smartwatch? Kinda sets you apart. Don't worry about the watch.

Be yourself, and convince them you are the best candidate for the job.

curious to me how many folks advise not wearing a watch at all. regardless of the make or model, i feel like one great reason not to is that you don’t wish to convey that you have other places to be or things to do, so wouldn’t want to check a watch. i get it.

on the other hand... me without a watch on isn’t me. i’ve often joked with my friends that if they see me without a watch of some kind on, it’s a distress signal and that something is far amiss.

i’d wear the watch, even if i were interviewing for the joint chiefs of staff. but id also wear long sleeves and never touch my watch or sleeves.

but i’ll also echo that no one will notice anyway.

So you've had the interview. But I think I wouldn't have worn it. It's a divisive reference (I'm not even sure if I like it myself). If the interviewer had been a WIS -- was he? There's no way of knowing now -- seemingly a dream scenario, it might even have worked against you. All these known unknowns.

Attire in the office appears to be very casual. I will be wearing a button down, jeans, probably white common project sneakers. Nothing too fancy.
If your brand is "BigBaller" I think you know the answer

I personally wouldn't have mentioned anything. If the interviewer initiated the conversation, different story.

I agree with you. I was just questioning what difference the actual presence of the watch made if he was going to talk about it.

I guess I can't get past the blue rubber strap. Never been a fan. What a way to muck up a beautiful watch (in my opinion).

He’d be risking looking like a “poser” (for lack of a better word) by talking Rolexes without having one on my wrist.

At least, that’s probably what would be at the forefront of their minds.

Interestingly enough, bringing up the topic while not wearing it might’ve made for some very interesting conversation! Actually bringing that topic up to the interviewer as the interviewee would’ve been a quite stimulating, I’m guessing.

Are you sure you want to wear white sneakers to a job interview?
I would recommend a pair of brown or grey chukkas and a stainless steel watch.

Wear the watch.

Not sure about the clothing selection but if that is acceptable for your interview then go for it.

But it what you say during the interview that matters...focus on that.

Good luck!
