Submariner Date / NonDate
I have a Pepsi and would.love to purchase a submariner. There is quite a it on the forum with competing views on date versus no date. The purists view of being closest to the original and clean aesthetics versus the practical application that a date is probably the most important function of a watch after telling the time. I thought we should see if views have changed. Obviously the date is more popular and this more being produced.

I favour the no date model in vintage and the date model for modern, it’s taken me a while to warm to the ceramic sub but now I realise it’s perfect

Submariner Date / NonDate
I have a GMT and a Submariner ... the ND. Without question, the ND has a special quality that only one other Rolex has (the Explorer) ... a simple “pure essence” that is so intoxicating.
The clean crystal with no cyclops, the perfect symmetry of the dial, and the ease of maintaining a 12 hour watch vs one with a date. My GMT is my dressy sport watch that I wear daily at work and special occasions. The new 70 hour power reserve keeps it running when I switch to my weekend watch, the Sub. Even if the Sub has wound down to a stop, it is so easily reset because of the absence of the date wheel. This ease of maintenance makes the watch so relaxing. No complications on the watch comforts me and reduces stress. This is my watch I take on vacation. A simple, perfect watch. Part of the stress reduction is the ability to just watch the sweeping second hand, without “cyclops distortion,” make its journey around the dial — kind of like the tension relieving effects of watching a fish aquarium. There is joy in simplicity and the No Date Sub gives that to this Rolex and watch enthusiast Complexity vs. Simplicity Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

You GMT has the date feature when you need it.
Submariner will offer you variety for a watch aesthetic without the date. |

The no-date is cleaner, in my opinion. That said, I check the date on my watch fairly frequently, so I traded my no-date for a date. If you don't care to check the date on your wrist, I'd say it's a no-brainer: save the money and get the cleaner looking model.

For me, it must have date and cyclops. Very useful and also I believe aesthetically correct for me. As all others have said, it’s purely your decision

I prefer my no date 114060 but I have a DJ41 for work purposes when I need a date.

If you ever check the date you have your answer. I went ND and wanted the clean dial. Loved it and it was gorgeous to me. I did however keep checking for the date and kept trying to train myself to not look. I gave up and traded for a LV. Always wanted the LV, but problem was solved. The ND would be a great weekend watch where knowing date is less important.

I’m in the same boat as you and own an LN GMT and a no date. The GMT already has a date complication so to me there’s no need for a sub date but either way you can’t go wrong. That being said there’s something special about the no date sub.

ND looks better and cleaner, but having a date function is a REALLY useful feature.
So your choice, form over function or function over form... |

Well if I were you, since you already have a pepsi with date, then maybe the no date sub would be a nice complement. I have a pepsi as well and I have an OP 39 (no date) for this exact same reason.
I will say though, I love being able to have the date handy. |

I love the no date. Do you want all your watches to look the same?
IMO the cyclop makes the sub look too much like the gmt. When the black bezel gmt was around, you had to look to hard to see if it was a sub date or gmt. Also you save d$$ on the regular sub. |

There’s a great vid on YouTube by Bijou Diamond Jewellery titled Rolex Submariner Date vs No Date. Sorry, I’m unable to post the link.

I have tried ND, and for the reasons above, I enjoy them. I don’t wear them often however because it is maddening to look at your wrist for the date and it not be there.
If you aren’t conditioned to do that already, it might not be a problem for you. For me, it’s a habit I can’t seem to break. Were I in your shoes, I get the date feature. You could buy a homage ND like NTH for a few hundred and see what you think first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's funny some have have issues with the various nicknames of the Rolex watches. I only have one, albeit slightly. The "Submariner" is officially the one without a date. "No date" for me is an unnecessary description. Anyways, I always go for the underdog, cause I know the popular model is the "Submariner Date".

I also created a short video you may want to see ... it compares the ND Sub and GMT. I specifically point out differences in the dial (which would be same as Sub Date. I hope it helps you.

I own a date but like both. I do use the date function often throughout the day, so it seems more practical
