Does this 5496 look ok to you??

Hi all

Went to the AD here in Sydney and offered this piece. But look at the day window. Does this look ok to you? The salesperson was saying it's alright, and it will eventually switch to the next day - may be in next couple hours, so he said.

What do you guys think? Is this normal?? Or stay away?

And if you think this is not normal - kinda worrying that this sort of problems can occur to a Patek 😖

Ive seen that before in the same reference but in platinum. i say no worries as it probably would change one you fully wind it. in the box the mechanism doesn't get enough wind hence unstable power supply.

i say its ok but im no expert maybe hear what the others say.

here's an example of the one i tried recently. look at the day window, its just starting to move.

This watch was actually wound (he opened it). But still the day is not changing...

It’s the way the movement has been designed to do it.
I thought 20 to 11 was a bit early, but the date change process is active from 8pm, as the user manual points out – so no changing dates between then and 2am.

Does it bother you that it starts changing earlier than preferred and expected?
If so, then this isn’t the watch for you, unless you can accept that as a compromise.

FWIW, I played with an Omega PO, after checking some Nautilus dials, etc, out under a loupe, and the compromise there was that the date is tied to the hour hand.
Lovely idea if you move between timezones, but I’ll be damned if I’m having to twiddle the crown for ages, just because I’ve not worn it for a week or so. Sod that for a game of marbles!
So that kills all notions of a PO for me, and likewise, this early date change process might bug you enough to make the watch lose its appeal.

Edit:

Might be worth having another look, and spending a bit of time going through the setup procedure according to the manual – just to make sure it’s not faulty. Details here.
If it is faulty, this’ll be another case of their internal QC not being up to the standards they claim and extoll the virtues of, on their website!
Hopefully that’ll not be the case, and once adjusted with the push button tool provided, it’ll be functioning as it should.

A sticking date is always a worry for a PP but as PJ S says if this is normal with the model then I wouldn't worry, altho 8 is rather early.

Why don't you just move the hour hand forward? If it changes dates, then it's ok. Otherwise, don't accept delivery of the watch.

I actually prefer the instantaneous day and date change of Rolex movements, but I've gotten used to the gradual change of date on PP movements. Personal preference-if the gradual change and weird look in the PP windows bugs you then don't get it.
