Omega Speedmaster repair

How often do you members think the Speedmaster needs to be repaired? Mine is about 9 years old and running 3 minutes slow a week. It is the yellow Schumacher version. Also, where is a good place to get it repaired in the Midwest? Milwaukee, Chicago area?

I do not know about a repair facility but any decent watchmaker can do the job, they are not that hard to work on.

Ideally all watches worn every day should be serviced every year. But in the real world and at the costs of service today, I would suggest every 3rd year.

This issue is that the oils used to lubricate the pivots migrate over time causing a "dirty" condition, dry bearing points and the gaskets and seals break down and a increased risk water leakage. In addition in the case of chronographs, the pushers will become dirt encrusted and start to stick and break down.

I didn't realise that Omegas needed to be serviced every 12 months.

unless you swim and shower with your watch, there is no reason to get it serviced every year... thats ridiculous. more like every 5 years.

That is not wise if you want it to last until your children pass it on to your grand children. If you wear it every day you can bet your bottom dollar that the jewel cups will dry out and the pivots will have wear on them. After many years of wear little groves form and then the balance wheel, escape wheel and pallet will need replaced.

Ideally, a watch should be cleaned and oiled once a year. But this 'intermediate' service is not as intense as a full overhaul. This sort of attention does minimise the number of parts which need replaced over the life of the watch, but it costs the consumer more in the long run.

Breitling offer their customers the option of an intermediate service, or full service.

IMO, although I would love people to service their watches more often, once a year is a bit much. Just make sure you have the gaskets changed anually.
