I'm not saying it's bad for the brands who get to ride on the coattails of Rolex (and to some extent Patek, although the Rolex SS models definitely have a wider reach in the media, etc), but I don't see this as a success on Lange's part. It's just spillover, as you noted.
I’m pretty sure you’re right. Thing about watches is that even when they’re expensive, the cost of admission is still pretty low and the level of financial sophistication required to understand the numbers is negligible. This makes them very attractive to the average man on the street, and fuels the frenzy.

That said, it’s a fabulous watch.

This is all standard to me. Lange intentionally kept supply low on the SS model because they're either looking to play the SS game (why should Rolex and Patek have all the fun?) or because they wanted to create relationship pieces without actually being transparent and calling them relationship pieces.

In both circumstances, flippers come out of the woodwork.

This is standard.

I hate it, as a die hard collector, but it's the reality we live in.

Always a fascinating human psychology experiment.

FOMO when something is brand new and not even out of production.

Let's all jump on the new Kermit, for 3x MSRP! A non-limited piece.

Well, decided to jump on the train and put my order in for the SS piece. It's an application piece so it looks like I have to wait a little to hear back. I have good spend at the specific AD I used though so not too worried.
