Was The Blue Santos Discontinued?

I got on the Cartier website tonight and, when looking at their watches, the white dial Santos comes up, but the blue dial and the black versions don't show.

If you do a search by reference number, the blue Santos comes up but shows out of stock.

I also noticed that the asking prices on Chrono have crept up above MSRP and the last listing on here was also priced at almost 10% over MSRP.'

So, discontinued? Limited availability due to COVID? Or artificial restriction of supply to try to increase demand?

I was at my local boutique about 6-8 weeks ago and they had one in the showcase. According to my sales person some items have been a bit more difficult for them to get since Covid.

My advice is trying calling your nearest boutique or the Cartier customer service number at 1(800) Cartier, and ask about availability of the gradient blue dial Santos. I've always found their customer service people very helpful. Let us know what you find out.

I've owned the blue dial for over a year and I'm really happy with it. Here is a photo I took of it a while ago.

A while back when I checked out the Cartier boutique they told me that Cartier likes to release watches in different colors for a limited time, typically a year. They pointed out to various models of the Tank MC as an example where the boutique had random colors in stock but it wasn't shown on the website. The SA said that these were discontinued colors produced for a year. Based on that, I wouldn't be too shocked if the blue Santos is done.

You may be right. A friend had said something similar about Cartier producing some darker dial watches for about a year or so, around the time I was considering getting mine. Although, the Tank MC seems to be one piece that doesn't follow that theory as they released the blue dial for that several years ago, it is still available and it is still on their website.

Yeah, I bought mine from the local AD about two months ago as it was sitting in the case.

But, this weekend, when I was at the boutique and told them I had one, they acted surprised and asked, "How'd you snag that one?" like it's hard to come by.

Made me wonder what is going on with it.

There was a brown Tank MC and a black Tank MC that are both off the Cartier website. Looks like the blue and white versions are standard models.

Congrats...sounds like you bought it at the right time!

Yes, I noticed the black dial Tank MC was off the website. I think the brown dial was in production for a much shorter time than the black dial.

The blue is very nice. Enjoy it! Never understand why companies limit things that they can sell, sell, sell.

Was at the Cartier boutique earlier today and the SA mentioned it’s still available, but supply is low due to covid. I have this watch as well and it’s beautiful in person.

Bought this watch in February and worn heavily since then. It really is a watch for every occasion you can think of - dressy, sporty, for office work etc. Having an AP 15400 Blue in my collection as well, I actually prefer this dial slightly and the bracelet with the AP is very flashy/shiny. One of my friends complimented me on this Cartier and assumed it was a $15,000+ watch but he was very surprised when I told him it was half that (he has a couple of Rollies and an IWC).

I'm just waiting for Cartier to bring out the Rubber strap like they have for the Ceramic bezel version!

Looks like it’s back in stock on the website with a nice little price bump.

Saw a few customers. I would consider it. After the pandemic.
