AncestryDNA anyone try it?
We just bought a couple kits as they were on sale for $69. My wife is adopted and her mom was adopted and we really know very little of her ancestral makeup. And mine is just for fun as we know where my family came from. More of an accuracy check for me.
Just wondering if anyone has used them in the past and what their experience was?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I actually want to try this. I'm wondering if I have Chewbacca.

The only issue might be one of a 'right to privacy'. There have been concerns (both legal and ethical) about these businesses maintaining a DNA database and potentially selling or disseminating your personal information to the likes of law enforcement, cryogenic institutions, medical research and other potentially interested parties.

They say the results take 6-8 weeks. I will try to post some screenshots when I get them. I was hoping for maybe some Australian of New Zealander or something fun. But I doubt it. Likely Czech, German and Irish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have tried it. Much was known previously, but it did help to continue building out my family tree.

I tried it.
It seems to be accurate, although the information less than about 5% is iffy, especially below 1%, but that's to be expected.

I think it was about $99 when I had it done, but there is a sale now for $69, but you better hurry, if it's still available.

We were disappointed in it.
It told us both very little. I'm apparently 98% of European Jewish decent. Very little info otherwise.

98% Jewish is good, not sure if there's much else outside of that I suppose.

Actually did it at Christmas. I never knew who my father was and at 62 I found my father(now deceased) 2 half brothers and a half sister also discovered I'm 56% Italian and my grandparents came over from Calabria. All from spitting in a tube... go figure.

You would think but it's my understanding there isn't. I'm absolutely no expert but I ran into some literature around one of the oldest Jewish bloodlines known (with extremely low population numbers) that apparently are correlated to a unique health issue. And there were no assignments such as Hungarian Jew etc.

Ashkenazi Jews are susceptible to Tay-Sachs disease.

That's it! And colon cancer. I found this doing research when I had a scare last year. Thankfully I checked out okay.

My friend Luke found out his father was a Sith Lord.
He's glad he knows but it was a big soap opera when it happened.

Did you pay for the additional information above the standard testing? I thought about it for my wife because her past is so unknown, but from the few skeletons we have uncovered we thought it was best to leave the other ones buried. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would also imagine these like any test are influenced by the sample provided. The AncestryDNA test says do not eat or drink anything for 30 minutes prior to providing the sample. At least the one we went with was supposedly the most accurate I guess?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
