Hello, France!

Sitting at Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX waiting to board my nonstop to Paris.

After we land, immediately headed to Bordeaux for a 7-night river cruise through the region, and then back to Paris for 4 nights.

First time in Europe! Any suggestions for cool watch stuff to do while there?

Enjoy! :-)

My advice: forget the watch stuff. Bordeaux and Paris aren’t watchmakers’ regions anyway.

I’ve been on that cruise, and you’re going to be too busy enjoying yourself to waste time on watch shopping. Better to spend the time enjoying the local wines!

I’m envious, sounds like a fantastic trip.

I’d eat myself into a comma, and enjoy the fabulous wine instead of watch shopping … YMMV

Enjoy the trip. As others have opined, forget the watch stuff.

Pastries. Croissants. I'd fly non-stop to France just for the pastries and croissants.

Wear a watch you will enjoy but not worry about on the trip. Sounds like a lot of fun.

I reckon you're currently enjoying the cruise portion of your trip! Lately I've been entertaining the idea of going cruising. How would you say river cruising compares to ocean cruising? Looking forward to pics!

A comma is better than a full stop B.

Well, I'm back! And, I (mostly) ignored watches while I was there. But, couldn't completely ignore them!

A few general thoughts:

* Prices for watches are significantly higher than in the US, though I didn't ask about VAT refund amounts.

* There are Tissot boutiques and ADs EVERYWHERE.

* Prices for LV products are significantly less than in the US. Bought two roll aboards and each were ~US$1K less than here and that was before the VAT refund.

* Went into one Rolex AD in Bordeaux - they had no stock. Didn't bother trying in Paris.

* I'm not a wine drinker, but I LOVED the wines in Bordeaux! I loved them so much that I pre-ordered a case of 2022 wine for delivery in 2025.

After doing this river cruise, we will probably never do another ocean cruise. We already booked one from Amsterdam to Brussels for April 2024 and one from Basel to Cologne for December 2024 for the Christmas markets.

I took my Sub Date, DateJust 41, Santos, and Tissot panda with me. Wore all of them comfortably around Bordeaux, but, in Paris, only felt comfortable wearing the Tissot.

Officially, you *CAN* wear your Rolex ANYWHERE. Whether or not it is advisable to is another question.

My suggestion is to indulge in food and wine. The great thing about France is you don't have to spend insane amount of money to have a great meal at a restaurant. Walk to the bakery in the morning to pick up freshly baked croissants or pains au chocolat. Enjoy a light lunch on a terrace for lunch, and have ungodly amounts of Saint Emilion for dinner. Hope you have a great time!
