There goes the neighborhood. Maybe this is why the CEO bailed.

Guess if I wanted to give my six year old a $200,000 watch, this would be an okay option. Kind of big for his wrist though

Lots of hate all over the watch world for this one. The comments section on Hodinkee had similar sentiments. I think it’s a cool, fun piece honestly. That said, I’m nowhere near able to afford even the regular one at MSRP, so I suppose my opinion good or bad wouldn’t matter much to AP.

DJ Khalid’s Black Panther AP looks cool; he seems to like wearing it to the golf course. Just my $.02

Waiting for the 42 concepts to come out sans marvel. These are not for me.

The 3-D sort of effect is nice. I would have guessed some type of spider web motif in background, but probably too hard.
But the piece unique with the black Spidey is really impressive!
Looking forward to Iron Man and Hulk in the future.

I’m surprised they haven’t gone with iron man yet. I’d think it would be a slam dunk.

Need to wait until at least 2027. 2025 one will be a female character (unless the new CEO pulls the plug on the Marvel collab - but at this time, the next one should be well underway).

Iron Man is the only one that can not be done.
2025 will be the first without a character on the dial (in line with the 150 yr anniv of the brand). Curious to see how they go about this. Perhaps wonder woman’s shield? Also lines up with the new lady boss of AP.

Btw, does one of the resident VIPs know what the other lots at the auction were? In IG pics the Spider-Man was labeled Lot 3…

Is this real? 6 million? How is that even a possible number for this happy meal toy?

Relax, man, it was a charity auction ("First Book and Ashoka associations"). Total raised was $8.5M.

Why will the next one not have a character on it?
If that’s the case, then the female hero may be the Invisible Woman. j/k
Seriously though, since wonder woman is a DC character, I was anticipating Capatain Marvel since she is masked.

Also not sure why you say Iron Man can’t be done, because AP could really be innovative with that character’s theme in a concept piece.
Ultimately, the question will be how long will the new ceo endorse this collaboration since it may be more of FHB’s legacy project. Time will tell.

Weren't there some IP/copyright complications with Iron Man? Very hazy memory, now that APWorldTour mentioned it.

Correct, due to the iron man competitions they can’t use the name and didn’t want to call it the Tony stark watch.

François mentioned recently that the next one will be a female hero with no character on the dial. Sorry not a big superhero guy so mistook Wonder Woman for being marvel.

A lot of hate for this piece unique. I just don’t get it, looks amazing. I look at the first PP 5711 Tiffany went for a similar amount. For a watch that is one of 170, made in stainless steel, with a blue face that shows zero thought. Compared to what AP did it makes the AP look like a relative bargain.

Ah, I didn’t realize FHB had made that comment. The Iron Man branding issue is also interesting, but makes sense. Next one should be interesting. I know I geeked out a bit there when stating WW is a DC character, but I had learned about it when trying to understand the origins and differences between Marvel and DC given how the franchises have developed over the past decade. The AP/Marvel collaboration is case in point that still intrigues me.

Reason for the hate is the Invicta look. Personally don’t love the Tiffany 5711 either and can’t believe this Zach Lu guy paid 6.5m for it. Just nuts. I’d pay retail $55k for it though (because it’s rare and a collectible and I would still wear it). Can’t say the same about the Spider-Man AP especially not for over $200k

I hight doubt its gonna sell for 6 mil. The few modern watches that could fetch that price are more complicated. This is more of an art piece and rarely would those go for that much. Im no appraiser, but i'd say it goes for around 1 mil. Maybe $1-1.5mil.

Just posting a link with Francois' interview on the Spider Man. This was filmed just prior the release.
He also touches on topics of upcoming openings of AP Houses, AP Coverage and next Marvel piece.

Curious what you see as evidence that the ship was brought down (other than a watch you don't like)?

Honestly i dont believe that. I dont believe someone would actually pay that much for this watch. Until I see proof like a bank wire or some sort of evidence im not believing this story. Ever hear the phrase, "believe none of what your read and half of what you hear".

It could be a scam to pump up the value. Someone, puts an absurd bid that never gets paid for. It makes the next buyer think they are getting a good deal.

The naive and gullible are the one's who get fooled into these sky high watch prices
