HBO ruined another great show

Alright my fellow TRF’ers what say you?

Succession series finale. Love it or hate it?

Obviously from my title you can guess my opinion. How does Kendall not end up on top? It was the central theme of the show. His trying

Guess that could be the reason why he didn’t. All of his failed attempts. But I just don’t like it

Back to HBO series finales

Sopranos? Terrible

Game of Thrones? Terrible

White Lotus Season 2? Terrible

I’m sure there’s more but I can’t think straight I’m so pissed. Poor Kendall. Shiv? Wtf!!

The Deadwood finale wasn't great, the movie only partially made up for it.

Yeah, would of liked to see what all four siblings did with their Billions. Not a great ending.

I am the furthest thing from a television writer but I suspect that creating a dramatic series of events rather ties up the loose ends of several years but also avoids coming across as contrived...has to be one of the most difficult assignments.

I've also not seen the throne game, the lotus one or succession.

I always find it interesting how shows start out edgy and entertaining only to develop into what we would not have watched if they had started out that way. I think the Sopranos, The Wire, Ray Donavan and now Billions have all headed down the wrong road with series development and ending. It is almost like the writers and producers don't care anymore and they look for an easy exit.

Loved Deadwood. Apparently they finished filming season three thinking the series would continue. Instead it was cancelled and no further episodes were made. Which in my mind leaves it possible to restart the show, which was one of the best ever.

Well that was definitely the case with Thrones. The producers couldnt wait to move on to there next project, fans revolted about the ending, so much so those same producers got fired from there new project

As to Succession for those who have watched it one could say the kids didnt end up with the company because Logan knew all along they werent ready/serious enough. Which is why he pushed for the sale in the end. Kinda like let me get this company sold before I die and these kids F it up after I'm gone. Still would've liked to see Kendall get it though. But he kinda was a F up so yeah.

Just thought of another one, Entourage.

That was a great show for what it was and they ended that terrible. I mean Vince getting married and to a woman he met like one time. What in the actual hell?

Give me time. I'll think of some more

Not a great ending. I agree Logan knew none of them could run it and was pushing the sale. Roman and Shiv realized it. What’s with Tom and Shiv holding hands in the end?

Yeah same. Was out to kill him before the vote then changed horses. The part I hate is poor ol Kendall. Roman and Shiv caved. Even crowned him.

Then Shiv went full nut nut

Television shows are not what they use to be. Most of them are horrible. I have a handful of channels that I actually watch.

Recession overall for me was a fantastic series. I haven’t seen the last show yet but even if I don’t like it it was worth my time. Sopranos and Entourage as well. Weak last episodes but I’ve rewatched both.

I’m glad I’ve found this thread - absolutely terrible ending. From a fans point of view it was just a let down. All of Logan’s children are deeply flawed in many ways which is probably what makes the viewing so interesting as you kind of dislike them intently, whilst oddly liking them at the same time. Kendal just should have got it. End of.

As you say game of thrones ended badly too.

Maybe the writers think it’s cool to end all these series in a disappointing way?

I guess I am in the minority, but I kinda liked the ending. Kendall always struck me a as a weak, indisisivie, entitled prick. As Logan correctly put it none of them were serious people that deserved the company.

Not an HBO show but I thought Breaking Bad had perhaps the best ending to one of the greatest series ever.

I didn't watch any of the series above except for Sopranos and I thought the finale was BRILLIANT. Just imagine millions of people across the country thinking their cable went out at exactly the wrong moment.

I know I jumped up and screamed at the TV, then realized that was one of the best endings ever.

I haven’t seen the last few episodes yet but if you have Prime, you can see Tom, Mathew Madfadyen in a movie called Stonehouse……..complete with his British accent.

It’s always kind of jarring to see British actors talking in their native accents after watching them talking , ‘Merican.

Agreed. Deadwood was one of the best ever. Everyone did expect a fourth season but HBO and the creator couldn’t come to terms on money. Unfortunately I don’t ever see a restart that isn’t a cheap copy. David Milch, the genius that created Deadwood and did most of the writing is in an assisted living facility with Alzheimer’s.

I think they crushed it.

so much manipulative back stabbing. the draw of money and winning clouded their loyalty.

if they had stayed true, the ending would be different.

they played their cards to early, they over estimated their hand.

The season was so well thought out but the ending lacked closure. Sale benefits shiv more than not selling, she knew she was benefiting Tom ultimately over Kendall.

I wish they ended it differently not the outcome but maybe a few months later….would love to see a Tom and Greg spin-off like better call Saul.

Just watched the finale, not how I wanted it to go but I thought it was a fine ending. Sort of satisfying in some way that Shiv screwed them all.

After what happened with the last season of GoT I don't think anything could possibly be worse than that.

Further to my post yesterday, my son and I have discussed this and both come to the conclusion that it ended like it should have. As Logan once said about his children, he loved them but they weren’t serious people. Ending this way kind of sums that up. Right at the very end, they have the votes in the bag and they go and screw it up!

Everyone counting their chickens before they hatched and showing their hands when they should have kept quiet.

As for the kids, they had planned to take their money and start their own gig at the start of this season. Now they can.

They lost nothing in this. In fact they got the price up.

As for Logan’s legacy, he was selling anyways. He knew it was time to get out.

I’m having a hard time feeling sorry for any of them even though their sociopathic father played them one against the other their whole lives. Then they just continued the tradition with each other fighting over his carcass.

I have no problem with the ending. A few pouting billionaires with bruised egos.

If you were looking for a happy ending, remember the sun comes up tomorrow and they’re still a bunch of very rich sociopaths just like daddy.

Fair assessment. And I agree for the most part and yes just a T V show

The part I didnt like is Roman and Shiv crown Kendall.

Make him drink and wear that nasty concoction

Only to have Shiv and Roman screw him over yet again. Just say hell no and leave it as such.

Yes I'm sure it was written as such to add another level of drama but if they left that bit out it saves time then we get to see a tad bit more of the aftermath. Versus Roman at a bar. Seeing Shiv ride off with the man she was gonna kill 10 minutes earlier and Kendall sitting on a bench.

Just my 2 cents
