-Banned user Rode

Hello,

I just purchased a watch from Rode, and it appears that he is now banned. Any insights into why? It looks like I made a grave mistake. No watch at this point.

Hope that is not the case.
Keep us posted and share details as you get them.

Thanks. I’m relatively new to the forum, do we have a way to know how or why someone was banned?

Doesn't sound good, definitely take action quickly. Pieces may or may not fall into place.

He's been posting frequent but simple messages since May https://www.rolexforums.com/search.p...rchid=21539069 Lots of "congrats" posts and I didn't see much else. That's common with scammers who are trying to build up a post count to look legitimate. I didn't see anything of his in the For sale section... Did he contact you through the WTB section?

I would play it safe and contact your bank to see if they can reverse the wire ASAP. If for some reason he turns out to be legit and you end up receiving what you expected, you can do the right thing and re-send the wire.

Thank you all so much. It looks like he took or blocked my access (if that’s possible) to the watch I “purchased.” I’ll definitely be seeking legal recourse. I’ve already started, but if anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear it. Thx again. I cannot believe I made this mistake.

Classic scammer MO, posting numerous inane responses to threads. The keys to type 'congrats' must be well and truly worn out.
Contact banks, sending and receiving ASAP.

His sales listings have been removed to prevent anyone else from being scammed. Did you get references from other buyers, or do any other check on the guy?

Thanks. I’ve contacted my bank, but by the time I got around to it, the receiving bank was closed. Will certainly contact them first-thing tomorrow. In hindsight, this is unfortunately a classic case of scamming. I completely own it, it was a significant lapse in judgement. Hope no one else makes a mistake like this.

Sorry you’ll have to wait overnight - hopefully the receiving bank can halt the transfer crediting to his account.

Once the dust settles please come back and share the details to help other new members learn from this incident.

For now, the best advice to readers is to only deal with long-time trusted sellers with stellar reputations.

Nope- best advice is don’t ever send a wire to someone in a another state you don’t even know! Use pay pal or AMX or both - real simple - you must protect yourself!

And/or, did you confirm your purchase via a phone call? I know many guys scammed here and elsewhere do not even have a phone conversation with the seller or "scammer." Never understood this.

Working through it all now. Ready to take legal action if necessary. Likely have updates soon. Can’t thank this group enough for the support.

Was the receiving bank responsive. Were they able to freeze the account?
Best of luck. Hope you can be made whole again.

Law enforcement will certainly take a report but it's unlikely anything more will come of it. If he did actually use his own bank account you could also file a civil complaint and get a judgement against him. Send a collection agency to harass him forever. Best case scenario is that the bank can reverse this before they withdraw the funds. Call the banks (sending and receiving multiple times daily) until you get resolution.

Hi all, great news to share. The wire was reversed, and the funds are back in my account! I’ll be happy to share findings and step-by-step if the community thinks it could be of value. This was an extremely fortunate case. Many lessons learned. Thanks.

I, for one, asked for such a debriefing in an earlier post. So I would appreciate it myself - please share the findings.

Absolutely, your story could prevent a serious monetary loss to other members.
