Rolex Submariner little scratch

Hey guys,

I have a question. I have a Submariner almost a year old and apparently last summer I scratched a bit at the the clip of the bracelet. It's not that it bothers me at all but which of the following things would you do:
1) Polish
2) Let it go
3) Buy new bracelet

My plan is to replace and upgrade in a couple of years.

Also I was wondering by how much the overall value of the watch is decreased if any due to the scratch. In general it is in a brand new condition.

Thanks and happy holidays to all,

George

Rolex Submariner little scratch

Let it go. It’s a Sub — fix it when it’s service time.

And that does not decrease the value of the watch.

If you plan on selling this watch in the future just leave it for now. When you go to sell it then have the clasp polished.

I also don't think anyone has come up with a % Decrease per scratch formula yet.

Let it go. That’s normal wear-and-tear.

I my opinion the watch is now junk. I will PM you my address so you can send it to me for proper disposal. :p

In all honesty, I would leave it alone. If you are worried about resale then you should only wear it on special occasions. Otherwise I think the amount of joy you will get from seeing it on your wrist every day will far outweigh whatever depreciation you would see from normal wear and tear.

But if I had to guess as to what the cost of wearing it vs. not wearing it from a value perspective, to me it would be the service. Because when you send it in for service they will make it look like new. so whatever the service costs is your actual cost to wear it vs. keep it in the safe. IMHO of course.

I personally would Polish it away but I am a heretic.

Many consider it a prerequisite.

Buying a new bracelet? Your hobby is going to get very expensive very fast if this is your plan.

If it doesn’t bother you at all, then it won’t bother me either. I was worried that you may be bothered and choose 3).

The clasp of my Explorer looks similar to that after only about three months of wear. I know it’s annoying but rest assured no one will ever notice it but you.

I know the purist might be horrified ...

but I would probably have a go at tidying it up a bit with the various products available that work for a brushed finish. I would do the research first though and not expect miracles. That's an ADs job.

So nicks and dings are part of ownership for sure. I seem to fall in between the “leave it alone” and “clean up every mark” camps.

Once a year I sit down and do a quick clean up of scratches. I use the Bergeon scratch “pens” that you can source on Amazon. It’s not perfect but just cleans it up a bit. And when it’s time for a service RSC will restore it perfectly you so choose.

If it doesn't bother you like you mentioned, I would leave it alone. When it comes time to sell, have it polished then. It may have even attracted additional scratches, and you can have them all taken care of at that point.

Or do this OP. There are numerous threads here on people refinishing their PCL's to the brushed look. Lots of discussion on different products used including a fine 3M Scotch Brite pad. As nigelUK mentioned.....Please do your research first though.

Well at least you are being honest about a tiny scratch ,and not some with words like huge and massive to describe these wearing scratches.

Leave it alone. Address it if you keep it and ever serviced it or make it the next persons problem. If I was to get a scratch that would be the idea place to get one for me

If that was my clasp I would take a small piece of green scotchbrite and gently make vertical strokes on that clasp and the scratch would be gone in about 90 seconds. I’ve done it several times and works perfectly.

This. It’s just the clasp. Easily fixed.

What has happened people, seriously! I’d think this thread was a wind up but (even if so) its one of many I’ve seen along the same lines.

I think purple is a weird looking color. Green is better.

I thought since your post had absolutely nothing to do with what the OP was talking about I would help you out and post another worthless post to distract attention away from your post.

No need to buy a new bracelet as a gentle polish at service time will do wonders.

So, in the interim, let it go.

No worries man. It can easily be polished out and it won’t decrease the value of your watch one cent. Enjoy it. :-)

Try rubbing it out with a little Flitz. Or maybe some Renaissance wax.
