Which do you consider the flagship of Rolex?

Two years ago I went to buy my first PM Rolex. I had every intention on purchasing a 36mm DD. When I got to the AD, I saw the Sky Dweller for the first time. I never even heard of that model. I had been out of the watch game since 2007 when I bought my 16610LV. I took all the information into consideration. Pedigree of the DD. The president bracelet. The only watch that isn’t offered in PM (the only one that counts anyway), and I still walked away with the Sky Dweller. When I think “Flagship anything” I think of the brand’s ambassador. 42mm was an impressive start. Add the GMT function and it’s just about a tie. Then you have the annual calendar complication and in my opinion it propels it past the DD with regards to being the brand’s flagship model. Yes, it hurt the model when it was offered in SS, but it makes it more accessible to the masses which isn’t always a bad thing. When I wear my yellow gold Sky Dweller with the sunburst dial and the applied Roman numerals, it gets so much attention even young girls inquire about the time piece. It’s a beacon of exclusivity worn around my wrist and no, it’s not for everyone. The DD is much more wearable with regards to the scale of wrist sizes, but the question was about the “Flagship” of one of the most recognized brands in the world. To me, there is no question it’s the precious metal Sky Dweller.

I suspect you have never put a Sky Dweller on your wrist. If you have, you would understand why it’s included in the conversation. Please don’t take offense to this Sir, I just feel that you would respect the reference more if you possibly have worn it... good night

You’ve already got the pretentious part down, seems like you’re ready for a day date and can join the rest of us

I have, many of times... I was offered a white dial not long ago, but it didn't do it for me. I'm not bashing the SkyD, but it definitely is not a flagship. It's a nice piece, but that's all. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Sub, DJ, DD and even the Daytona can be in the conversation, but no... Not the the SkyD. Sorry that I don't agree with you.

Day date...the sub may arguably be more iconic or copied...but the Rolex synonymous with success is and had always been the Day date.. champagne dial for me

Good to see we're right on track.
Exactly, no matter how it's written, people always vote with popularity, the watch on their wrist, just look at the posts...opinion, then photo of their watch.

In nearly 90% of advertising and even in the design of their stores, the Datejust design element are visible. The Datejust came before the DayDate, Submariner, Skydweller or any other popular model.

I wonder what people consider Porsche's flagship, loyalist will say easily the 911 but the company was saved from the ashes by the Cayenne...and now the highest selling P-car is the Macan. Which has the most tech, likely the new Panamera...but then that would be the Deepsea for Rolex and while very popular and my favorite reference, it isn't the flagship.

Day Date is the boss of bosses. Its been long associated with status and success. There are many watches that wear the Rolex crown but only one deserving to be on top which is the presidential day date.

DD is the traditional Flagship, Sub can be argued to be the new SM Flagship.

Well the flagship is the one you want to own and wear, it's got nothing to do with how much it costs or todays model hype.

I'd say flagship is Day-Date, it is the quintessential success symbol and what Rolex is known for, not something that changes easily. Their current hero product or what you could call it is DaytonaC white dial.

Indeed.

Flagship means “best or most important”

In the context of Rolex, the “best” is subjective depending on the individual criteria.

The most “important” in any business has to be the best seller in which case it’s the DJ - without question.

I would like to comment on the concept that the day date is only for the old and pretentious. An enormous number of celebrities wear a day date. Jamie Foxx wears a gold day date and Andy Cohen wears a platinum day date 40. Adam Levine wears a DD( as well as a pimped out gold and diamond Patek Nautilus). Jennifer Aniston too. Let’s not even bring up Ellen.

Lots of singers and rappers wear them as well. As well as athletes.

The day date is a symbol of success. That by another itself may be pretentious. The reason why you see a lot of old men wearing them is because they’re very expensive and in a normal population older people have more money accumulated.

They are more expensive watches and much more interesting designs materials but this watch is, and has been, the symbol of success for decades. And at the end of the day, watches our jewelry.

I vote Day Date.

Normally I would say DD, but I believe it has become the Platinum Daytona since its release and introduction.

I also voted DD, and it seems the people agree.

In my 20+ years of watches a DD has been something in the corner of my mind for maybe 15 of those years as a watch I need to have. It will happen and in my opinion will be the crown of my Rolex collection (and I'm not saying in terms of value, as others have higher market value).

As a true flagship - the DD no contest in my mind. The Platona, gold SkyDs may be higher priced at retail but the DD has that rich history, prestige and being associated with success through time.

Not sure, didn't make the poll. But I would give the nod to the Sky D for more technical of two, so would be my guess.
