Is this a hot/sought after Rolex

Hey guys and gals. I need your input. Is this Daytona considered a highly sought after and rare Rolex? It’s yellow gold. My AD pulled it out of the vault, and said it was a “special piece”. I know the stainless Daytona is uber hot, but not sure about this one? I currently have a Two tone YachtMaster, SD43, and Batman. My wife loves it, but I don’t want to buy a watch that will plummet in value when I walk out the door, like all my German sports cars...lol. Thanks!

Any and almost all Daytonas are what you would consider 'popular' and yes more so for the non precious metal models. But if your concerned about value retention, you can always minimize it by buying a brand new watch from a trusted and reputable grey dealer, of which there is quite a few on this forum.
Good luck!

It's a great watch. My wife prefers the rose gold with chocolate Arabic dial.

Same here ... I prefer either white or Rose in that model Daytona over the Yellow.

You'd be better off with the WG reference 116519LN as far as desirability goes.

According to my AD, the white gold one is the more difficult to obtain. You should be able to get either one with a bit of effort.

It’s a nice watch and easily obtainable. Not unusual to see it on display.

Buying a watch based on “market value” is silly.

Do you think it’s hot is the only thing you should be asking yourself. Buy one because it causes an emotional reaction within you rather than a possible financial reaction or compliments of others. Of my entire collection, the only one just a handful of strangers have commented on is my bluesy.

I think it's a beautiful piece... buy it if you have the chance and resources.

Sorry, I missed the original question. Yes, it is easier to find than other variations. Nonetheless, it is a magnificent watch.

I have this pice in the rose gold with chocolate dial and the older leather strap. Yes it is a hot item with the oysterflex strap and AD and grey are both selling close to msrp now. The older ones with leather strap sell preowned around the $22-23K price point.
Good luck with your decision.

The YG and RG oysterflex daytonas seem to be fairly commonly available. Stopped by two ADs over the past month and one had a YG one being shipped out, and the other had both a YG and RG in stock. Think the WG one is a bit harder, but there are probably a decent number of ADs across the nation that have 'em in stock (vs. the steel Daytona)

I'd say quite the opposite. Very desirable but not attainable by many because of the cost. No waiting lines but not common nor scarce. It's definitely a status Rolex.

No waiting lines like steel, but gold Rolex has always sold well and will always sell well. Not every Rolex buyer is a WIS who only wants a desirable sports model.

Have to agree especially when words like rare are used, no modern Rolex is rare, yes some made in smaller numbers but rare no.For some reason gold or TT watches have never held the value in proportion to price paid to the equivalent models in SS.

it's a 28k USD watch, dont think too many people could afford it to make it a hot, sought after piece. unless the DOW hits 50000 point, then things would start to change.

Once the price point gets to about $15k max - none of these watches become hot.

Its because there are herds and herds of people who are in the market for a watch between $7.5k - $12k which is making these SS watches hot. Any higher and the market for SS Rolex goes from 100-0 real quick. LOL

Not legible.

Buy watch you like.

Look at the pre-owned to determine depreciation.

PM Oysterflex Daytona’s are holding their value now better than any PM Daytona has, but they are not that rare or in demand.

If you do go yellow gold, there are many other dial configurations, and this one is a particular favourite of mine

Unless you are buying new with a minimum of 20-25% discount from an AD you will see significant loss in value once pre-owned. If I wanted this watch I would find it pre-owned and complete and save significantly. With that said I would always defer to the bracelet model. YG before RG for me but I do like the WG models on the bracelet. I just purchased the Platinum Daytona with the Diamond Dial and can not say enough about it. I had previously owned three different Platinum DD II's but the Daytona is more special to me. Good luck on your hunt.

That’s definitely not one of the most in demand Daytona’s - not too hard to find in an AD. Used that watch is selling for around 24-25k at the moment, so do expect some depreciation. If you’re worried about value detainment, the white gold Daytona on oysterflex is holding its value well, it’s just a bit more difficult to find.

Not true...

What about the 116500?

What about the SkyDweller?

What about the BLRO?

What about any vintage sports Rolex?

116500 - its a Daytona. Every SS Daytona always a big premium. Its reached a point now that any more increases from where it currently is it simply wont be worth to buy it as its PM territory.

SkyD - Their premium is not that much from RRP. Whats the issue there? The blue ones are asking $19-$20k gray prices but at that price its not a hot seller. Many ppl on this forum picked theirs up from AD at MSRP. My gray dealer has had several Blue Dial SKyDs listed close to $20k and they move very very slow and after negotiations. They never move for gray asking prices.

BLRO is dropping fast. Wait another 6-12 months. We will see $13-$14k.

Vintage is a very different ballgame altogether. Dont even start on that. Vintage is not easy to buy and sell as well - way way too many shonky's around.

Price plays a very significant factor for many buyers myself included. I know before me beginning my real estate investments I would no way look at anything above $10k. Now that budget has increased to triple or quadruple that. There is no beating around that fact.

It's a good looking watch but not something that's hard to come by.
Shouldn't matter when it comes to making the decision.

Not rare or special

Only sought after if someone is seeking it.
