Patek 2017 Basel pieces (plus) viewing and some thoughts
I got I try on some real beauties last night at the Patek 2017 Basel pieces viewing, as well as some current production pieces. All were great. A small write-up of each.
5170p (Stunning on the wrist, and extremely comfortable. Great size and weight balance. The gradient blue dial is just perfect. And the baguettes are subtle, and beautiful. The movement is intoxicating). 5320g (Another beautiful 2017 release. The case and lugs are meticulously detailed. The vintage feel is not overdone, offering a nice balance of new and old. This watch was well received by most at the event.) 5524g (This was the first time I've seen this in the metal. It never was my favorite online, but on the wrist, it really is a special watch. While bigger than other Pateks, it was not too big. It fit nicely, and it's extremely legible. It's a fun watch). 5370p (Winner, winner! I saw one of these a few months ago, but it was double sealed, so I could only view it. Last night, I got to try it on. Perfection. The case, the lugs, the enamel dial, the Breguet numbers, and of course, the movement. Maybe one day! 5270r (I own this, but it's still single sealed, so it was nice to try it on. It really is a beautiful watch. The size, the rose gold, and the classic Patek feel.) 5711/1r (If I could pull off a full gold watch, this would be the one. The rose is gorgeous, the dial works perfectly, and the bracelet is as smooth as silk. And the weight is so well balanced, offering a nice heft versus its steel siblings).

You tried some incredible watches. The 5370 has been my favourite ever since it was released. And I still like the 5524 a lot. No sign of a 5131/1p?

Very nice Stephen. Thanks for sharing these with us. Since I already have a 5711/R I really like the blue dial 5170, a stunner with or without diamonds.

Russ I understand. There is no 5370 available in my AD. I guess I am too late to ask. Hope it will not discontue next year.
Just try to make choice between 5170P and 5270R. Maybe just choose 5370, forget about 5170p and 5270R. |

I was speaking to my AD regarding allocations for 5131P and 5650G. My AD said Rhone had made allocations for 5650G but not for 5131P

Not yet; I am going to sit tight. Of the 2017 pieces, the 5170p stole my heart, but my brain says to wait until prices settle and try to buy it "right". Of course, the production time and number of pieces produced will prove me right or wrong, but I will take my chances. Quote:
I own the 5270r, although I still have it single sealed. I have considered flipping it. I have a hurdle I need to get over - "It has to be platinum or bust." There are too many fine watches out there in other metals that I will miss out on if I stick to only platinum. The 5270r is a great example. Quote:
The 5370p is just perfect, in every way. And FWIW, the AD said the 5524 will be more readily available this year. Time will tell. No sign of the 5131p, unfortunately. This is the one for me, of the 2017 releases. Thanks! It's a special piece. Quote:
That would be a tremendous dynamic duo!
