For anyone that watches CRM on YouTube, latest episode at about 11:20 in, a guy brings in his 15510 and tells him how he brought it on a first visit. I’m not saying this is commonplace but I’m just saying that’s what he claims in the video so don’t hound me please….

Post your collection, I’ll post mine. Let the forum members decide who has better and you’ll see that I’m not jealous of the likes of you….

Is there currently a Patek 5980/1r for sale. If so what’s the current price they are selling for?

I appreciate that I could entertain you, you’re welcome.

That the brand has lost all appeal to me because of the increasing infantilisation and hype is a personal matter, glad that you can keep enjoying it. As stated earlier, I have and had huge respect for some of the ingenuity applied (SkyD), but the image I feel has greatly deteriorated. I’m afraid that in my immediate professional environment, wearing a Rolex, certain models obviously not included, has become, sadly, a rather vulgar thing, mainly restricted to analysts.

Fortuitously, the community here is (largely) kind and helpful, and I could sort out plenty of concerns with the knowledge of other collectors. Hence, I don’t see any need to part ways with the forum.

I do hope you enjoy your collection, and have a nice day.

I think this is right, for me at least. I've had "nice" watches for over 10 years and lesser ones for another 10 prior, but avoided Rolex for a long time as being a bit cliché. I softened my views a little about 7 years ago. I've owned a few since then but have stuck with a 116600 sd4k (one of the few nicknames I can stomach) and a black GMT. To me these are classic without being hype/in your face.

"Image" is a tough concept to really digest. You never really know what people are thinking of you or your watch. In terms of pure numbers way, way more people now want a Rolex and look at a sub/datejust and think "wow, thats a Rolex!" vs say 5 years ago. I would think a much much smaller number of people have shifted opinion in that time and now say "that's a Rolex... YAWN... How cliché/unimaginative/they must be Instagram hype beasts" etc. I lean more into the latter camp to be honest more often than not...

My first impression of most Rolex owners is the same as my first Impression of BMW series 3 owners.
I’ve had a lot of trouble with Rolex in the past few years, the direction they’ve taken, and the clientele they now attract, generally speaking. Don’t care for exceptions….tho they certainly exist.
It’s pushed me into more obscure corners of the Rolex brand (Tudor for instance is now my fsvorite) and other brands as well…..and that’s quite positive if you ask me.

Let’s go boys! Would be more entertaining to watch 2 great watch collections than speculating about prices!

Wonder how much longer this thread will go on. Thankfully things have calmed down as will the speculation and those who want to wear will get what they love without having to buy crap

Sales listings are more often than not priced to move, but there are still some pieces that sit for a while (wonder if they are consignment pieces with optimistic owners?).

Anything that says « Subdial curated » is consignment. So pretty much anything above 10k.

Prices slump by up to 50% for discontinued Rolex watches (Watchpro)

I’m just a lurker on this forum but would like to add an analogy.
I’ve been collecting for several years and dipped my toe into the Rolex pool several years ago. I usually don’t wear them, as the crowd I run in would think I’m trying to be “flashy” or show, what they call, my financial success. (Which I don’t believe it does)
Well one day I decided to wear my Sub to dinner with my teenaged sons,
who have never showed any interest in my watch collection. My youngest son saw my watch and asked me if it was a Rolex. I was surprised that he knew what it was and told him that. He said that he seen it on Instagram and asked me how much it cost. I questioned him where on Instagram and he told me it was from a influencer/rapper that he followed and began to ask me about Patek and Richard Mille, two brands I wouldn’t think he’d ever heard of. He’s also learned a lot about super and hyper cars due to Instagram.
So I do believe that Instagram is having some effect on the brands and who’s buying them and at what age people begin to notice watches. As far as them influencing your perspective of whatever brand you are interested in, it is up to you to decide.

Just my 2 cents.

PS I tried to quote Mecutio but didn’t know how.

Don't know that I would call $300 market moving or a CNN banner line event.

Better than going up. $300 can buy me a ticket a lot of things. Groceries, 7 full tank of gas, moonswatch and more.
