Which one of these for a "beater"?
I'm scared to wear vintage Rolex in the water. I need something that I can wear when I cant wear something vintage. That being said, there are two Omegas Im in love with but at a bit of a crossroads....
I have a NOS dial for a 3510.21. I'd have to buy a donor watch and swap the dial but this can be done for prob $1200-$1300. I LOVE the look of this watch. I dont care that it may be a Franken. It is my Poorman's 6263. On the other hand, I would love a 42mm Omega PO 2500. It is a bit more expensive (~$2300-$2500?) and it does resemble my 16800 Sub but it is a gorgeous watch. I really think this will be a classic in 20 years. |

Speedmasters don't do well in water. The PO would be the choice if it has to get wet

For a beater/wear in the water, I'd go PO out of those two. That being said, I'd be looking for an older Seamaster. Something like a 2254 or 2531.

I'll pile on, get the PO if you're concerned about water resistance.

A Rolex 16800 is not so far "vintage" that it can't be used in water. Have it serviced and tested, and wear it every day without worry.

For the water, PO.
But... I would go for the speedy and go watchless to the water
