Icon7 Red Wine Recommendations**

One thing I have learned about TRFer's, is that you are all very passionate about quality and the simple pleasures of life. So, I am seeking all of your help....

After a very busy and stressful weekend, I am looking forward to sipping some nice red wine. I usually drink California Cabernet's and Pinot Noir's. Does anyone have a good red wine selection they would like to share? I am not looking for expensive wines, just something nice to sip while watching the sunset...

Try a Penfolds if you can get it there, Yellow Tail is Ok but we have many far better wines .

Well, I will just about drink any Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley in Oregon.

My two favorites though and both are reasonably priced are Duck Pond and Argyle.

Here is a link to many wines in Oregon. Some you can buy online depending on where you want them shipped. http://www.willamettewines.com/

Argyle also makes the best sparkling wine you could imagine.

Thank you Good Sir!! Very interesting choices!!!

We live near Temecula, (the other Napa Valley) and just tried a Wilson's Creek Almond Champagne. It was delicious!!! Mrs. Subs drank the whole bottle!

Penfold's are widely available in the US (even in Kansas!) and they are great red wines. Excellent examples at multiple price points. Yellowtail is no comparison.
There are too many fine California Cabernet Sauvignons to list. I personally like Silverado's Solo. Pick up a couple at a time and find what you like. I have discovered a lot in the 12 to 20 dollar range that are very nice. It's like other things, there are some in the lower price ranges you will enjoy, but you're more likely to find winners as the price goes up.
My wife and I loved Temecula when we visited the area a few years ago, if we could afford to move there I think we would.

now you're talking.

I've got a bottle of 2005 barbaresco waiting to mature...but in the meantime I am really loving the amarones.

Masi makes one tat is unbelievably good for the price.

Only about 35-40$ and a 91 score by Wine enthusiast.

look for 04-05...velvety smooth mouthfeel with nice caramel and cocoa undertones... an amazing sipping wine

I bought a case of these in 2006. Very smooth full bodied CabSav. Might be a bit pricey over there.

If you can find one, FROGS LEAP Cabernet Sauvignons about $30 at whole foods.

Boy...no kidding!!! When I get home, I'll get the name of a little winery in the Willamette Valley that made an awesome Pinot!!! First time I had it was at Morrisons Lodge on the Rouge River. Liked it so much...I bought 2 cases from the lodge itself....then periodic purchases from the winery. I'll post the name later!

Other than that one....there's a ton of Livermore and Central Valley wines that kick butt on Napa and Sonoma....and a lot less moola!! Again..names when I get home!

In keeping with the Aussie theme... (and I like Shiraz)

This list is good -

You can find some of these at World Market - pretty darn cheap there.

If we're not limiting it to everyday wines (because really - that gets old), you simply must try the flagship Rubicon Estate wine that goes by the same name, "Rubicon".

The 2004 vintage can be ordered from their website now.

Thank you all for your input!! I knew that there would be a considerable amount of knowledge and information amongst the members here. You are all outstanding!! I plan on compiling a list and getting ahold of some of these different wines.

I look forward to enjoying them!

I keep most of these locals stocked at my house since the winery is across the foothills from where I live.
Australian reds are great as well, but I'm still looking for one that I had in Frankfurt that tasted almost like chocolate. Think a road trip will be in order later this year

Swing by the "Wine Country" store in Signal Hills for a great education on nice wines. I'm very partial to the Murphy Goode Liar's Dice Zinfandel for a "reasonably" priced nice red.
