beater

i tried to post one in the other watch forum but no one replied so i'll post it here. i was advice by someone dear to me not to wear my rolex everyday because it might lead to some unfortunate events.

which beater should i get?

Casio - G-shock
seiko accutron chronograph
Timex iron man
Citizen ecodrive
stick with my guess steel pro and seiko divers which were always my beater for the last 8 years?

I'm a big fan of the G-shock. I find the Atomic Solar models to be fantastic for rough use and of course spot on time keeping.

I use one more times than not to set the time on my more expensive pieces.

They're the new tool watch to me.

Which model Rolex? I would wear it most days that you aren't afraid of physically damaging it. I personally like SS watches, so if one of yours is, that would be my #1 daily.

I own an Ironman for mountain biking because it is a little more low profile than a G-Shock otherwise I would have gone for the G. If you have a Seiko diver and weight is not an issue I would say go with the Seiko. That being said I can't see many situations where I would wear a sport Rolex. The only time I don't wear my SD is for mnt biking.

I have a Timex Ironman. It's ancient, but still works great. My everday watch, however, is my Sub Date.

Without being too bold, i would say that no-one has beat their watch much more than i have. I wear a Rolex. Its what they do best. Remember, some of the Rolex range were issued to officers in the war, then they did a stint as a recomended mil sub.

Getting beat up, is one of the things you buy a Rolex for in my opinion, like a Snap on wrench. Its no better at undooing nuts than many other wrenches, but if you want them to do it all day long, forever, you buy Snap on.

I buy Rolex. Never take it off (and they have been in some very questionable places!), and they have never missed a days work ever.

I've never tried on a G-shock, but I've heard nothing but good stuff about them. They're durable as it gets and come in many variations.

Steve, I hear ya' and I understand what you're saying. However, bashing my Rolex against the railing of a scizzor lift because my hand slips while I'm trying to install a sign and graphic at 5:30 AM at an airport is not my idea of the best use for my Rolex. I'd rather use a quality beater for such abuse and save my Rolex and/ or Tudors for the good times. Jmho.
Oh, and my opinion on the perfect beater is the Marathon SAR.

Every Rolex person should also have a Seiko diver and a G-shock in their collection.
