Cleaning your Rolex...in the Dishwasher?

Alright, has anyone done this before? Or would you do it?

I saw this on YouTube yesterday where this guy put three Rolex watches in the dishwasher to clean them. I've heard of people doing this before but I'm torn about doing it.

I'm adventurous with my watches but not THAT adventurous! I must say, the watches came out pretty shiny and clean.

I got questioned about putting my SD43 in an ultrasonic cleaner with shock absorption tray. I can’t even imagine the feedback this thread is going to get.

It seems weird, but it's likely less intense than it first seems.

I would imagine heat would be the biggest issue? I doubt the water would be a problem - it's not highly pressurized - a shower with great water pressure would be similar.
The other question would be what are you using for the cleaning product... a crystal glass cleaning tablet probably wouldn't trouble the watch either. Metal and crystal sapphire.

Seems more sane to use a soft tooth brush and some soapy water though?

Not worried about water and soap. But I wonder if the high temperature for drying would affect them? Maybe that's why he took them out and hand dried them?

Sorry but that just dumb. All you need is a quick little rinse with a little soap.

I can’t see it hurting it but I like my Rolex to be in my hand when cleaning it, call me paranoid if you must :)

I'm pretty sure Rolex has high temp tolerances and the water resistance should hold up fine. What im more worried about is why would anyone be lazy enough to throw a watch into the dishwasher

He's only got three watches in the video so i'm sure it was all for "shock" value than laziness. If someone has like 20 or 30 watches then a quick cycle in the dishwasher would probably be more warranted

I would definitely assume that the watches would not be hurt by temperature nor the water.

I don’t even understand the need. One minute task in the sink or shower.

Toothbrush would probably clean it better since it gets in between all the links and stuff.

Perhaps not that far fetched. I saw this at JFK. Scroll down and see the video of the guy cleaning glasses, jewelry and a Rolex watch for $3.

It reminds me of car washing system based on pure water jets with nothing but water touching the car. This method is almost the same, I bet the watch will be swirls free if washed this way. Not a bad.

It’s clearly a cold rinse with no detergent.

Completely harmless.

Dishwasher is for dishes. I mean the name says it all.
Would you take a shower in a drive through car wash.
I mean you could do it, but why.

What’s wrong with a soft toothbrush, soap and water. It takes even less time.

What’s wrong with it is that toothbrushes are for teeth.

No kidding, it's the reason people are eating tide pods. They clean clothes so maybe they can clean your insides. Common sense has stopped being a thought process in todays society.

great idea de-greasing the seals by putting your watch into a dishwasher with detergent.

Without detergent, what's the point?
