Does it have to be Swiss? I like some of the watches from Sinn (German)

Depends on the receiver. Ive come to realize even though brand "xyz" may offer a better watch. The recipient may prefer a brand like tag that he's familiar with.

BALL - Swiss

SINN - German

For around the 1k mark, Oris is a great option. If I was looking for anything "lower" I'd go with either Hamilton or a Seiko Japanese domestic model. I've heard a lot of good things about them lately.

You can find JeanRichards in the 1k range fairly often. You get a lot of value for that money too.

Below 1k I echo the Hamilton or Seiko route. Never held a Oris, but have heard good things.

A little over 2k or so your getting into Tudor and some discounted omega.

Victorinox is pretty nice and wears well I wouldn't buy anything other than an ambassador or an airboss though.

Are you in Australia?

If so, there is a great Oris following there, and I think it is tough to beat for features vs. dollar.

I don't know how you feel about buying a pre-owned watch, but I feel the price jump when they started using sw200 vs eta (2824?) was not justified. As such, an eta Pro-Diver represents great value!

I just jumped from my seat after reading the first word.

Now to the OP: Is it a dress watch ? or could it be a diver ?
