"Big Red" Daytona at D.C. AD

This weekend I dropped by the Rolex AD in Tysons (outside of D.C.) and they have a pretty sharp "Big Red" Daytona Ref. 6263 (i think. Not great with Daytona ref numbers.) They didn't have it on display. I was talking with one of the reps and he mentioned it and offered to bring it out.

AD said the owner came in looking to get it serviced after her husband passed. They were the original owners. She ended up selling it to the AD after they made what, I'm sure to her seemed like a generous offer. They are trying to decide what to list it for.

According to the AD it was serviced by Rolex once, replaced the crown and polished, everything else is original.

Here's a quick shot on wrist:

Nice looking 6263. I’d be curious about what looks to be greenish patina on the hands’ tritium, unlike on the hour dots. Maybe it’s just the lighting.

Quick update here: AD has it listed for $101,500. It was in fact recently serviced, not 20+ years ago like I originally thought. And it was polished at that service. That's too bad - sounded like that had an honest 6263. They also do not have the original crown that was replaced during the service.

Comes with original box, no papers but does have an archival pull from Rolex.

Archival pull? I've never heard of Rolex doing that.

Yeah, not sure. They just kept saying it comes with it.

Also, FWIW, it sounded like they were pretty soft on the pricing.

"And it was polished at that service...that's too bad." You lost me there. Does polishing a watch send it to the trash file?

When will the "I have the most original Paul Newman," 50-year-old Rolex contest be? Maybe they'll have some ratty, scratched-up, worn-out dial models for you to salivate over.
