Now I'm even more impressed with my monster, you all have certainly make a great selling point, I still wear mine every day, my poor other watches just sit there looking at me lets hope the seller never see these threads or there may be a price increase :-)

The Monster just keeps getting better and better

Bill,

Yup, batting practice.
I'm very pleased with the performance (I've never checked the accuracy until this post).
During the past 7 days I've noted the variance of -2 to +6.
I'll be doing more activities with the watch tomorrow.

Thats great Joji.

Our little experiment was certainly fun and we managed to maintain the excellent reputation of Monster !!....IMHO.

I think the least accurate posted was about 30 secs a day.Not something which would worry me when you consider all you get for the price!...but i am not an accuracy freak!!!
and i do not expect this type of watch to be hitting COSC stats. If you do have one you are unhappy with, its seems relatively easy for a good watchmaker to improve it for you!!!!!!

Clearly some like Ryan and Joji are lucky, with well regulated mvmts, blasting COSC requirements out of the Ball Park!!!!!!!!

It would seem that you could expect between 10-20 secs a day according to our unsophisticated experiment.

Just to be able to buy a well made mech watch for $180-230 is AMAZING IMHO....but for it to maintain reasonable timing through all our abusive activities is pretty incredible!!

In fact,i think because of Monsters lack of mech winding and the related difficulty getting it fully charged, the more active you are with Monster, the better it seems to operate.

So in conclusion........MONSTERS STILL RULE!!!!!!!!!

so my monster's still fast (approx 20-30 secs a day)... i decided to send an email to Seiko here in the Philippines.

so i told the the story of my Monster. and that i found out about it thru a forum and lusted for it since. told them about this thread and that most Monsters were ridiculously accurate. asked them a few questions too -- if we can self regulate a Monster (similar to our rolexes), where's the nearest service center, etc.

after a day or so, i received their reply. polite guy. i guess they were the official distributor of seiko here. he encouraged me to send the Monster in since "Monsters (or Seikos for that matter) were known for their accuracy" and that the 20-30secs per day was indeed off the allowable variance in accuracy. even gave me options as to where i could bring the Monster (i preferred to deal with them directly since bringing it back to the shop i bought it from would take longer).. even asked me to tell him what service center i'll bring it in so he could advice that center beforehand. told him i'll just observe the accuracy for another week and maybe it would settle.

after a week, it did settle to around 15secs per day. been using it anyways since i got it last feb. hopefully it would settle down still. will see till next week and let you guys know.

terrific service! make me love the watch (and the brand) even more!!!

Wow Joji...I don't think I could do that - wear the monster continuously for so long.

You took one for the TRF (other non-Rolex Topics) Team

WOW..... Dean....if i did not know better i would have thought you worked for Seiko Holdings Marketing Dept!!!!

That is pretty impressive customer care.....maybe telling them about the forum helped!!!!

I never imagined a company as huge as Seiko would go to these lengths to help someone......maybe the "big knobs" in Japan have logged in to check out TRF!!!!!!

Maybe we all have free Monsters in the mail!!!!!!

Good to know!!

haha! i didn't mention "TRF" at first and after the 1st exchange of emails, he did ask what forum i was on. told him TRF and to search for "Monster"... hehehehe! hope they could bring in more Monsters here though... they are getting "rare" since most seiko ADs carry newer models already. or maybe he offers us some deal on other "collectible" Monsters!

Seikos are great value, but i've never had an accurate one right out of the box. Even economy grade ETAs were more accurate out of the package

i have a orange and a blue monster, both of them run 15-20 sec fast in 24hrs. every review i have read about them says that is normal. i am not sure the blue one has the same movement in it as the orange one though. applying back pressure to the crown will not stop the second hand on the blue one. if i do it just right on the orange one i can get it to stop and even run counter clockwise. they are the best diving watches avaliable for the money and always get more comments than my rolex's. i consider them a must have for any collection.

Black Monster

Just got mine yesterday. It gained 15sec overnight (7hrs)

I opened the case and made a small adjustment to the regulator.
I'll wait a few days and see what difference it made.

Deyn Man,

Your post got me curious. That's ridiculously good service for the Philippines! Which service center did they direct you to? (good info in case I get myself a monster as well)

Honestly though, I'd see some threads about these watches from time to time but they all say the same thing: near indestructible, excellent timekeeping, unbeatable price. Iffy about the looks but everything else is giving me some serious GAS (gear aquisition syndrome).
