Seiko has its own original designs but it has a rolex-like-segment in their company that is tasked to produce rolex-lookalikes ...

We all know that ROLEX is the most copied watch brand in the world -- from counterfeiters to watch companies, they are all doing it ...some more subtly and others more blatantly ...

Look at cars today --- very hard to tell them apart... they are like a hodge podge or a melting pot ... they all look the same ...same goes with watches...Rolex sets the standard and they all copy...

I think that you are seeing things that aren't there, there seems to be no one that has answered this thread that agrees with your assessment.

I would equate Seiko with Citizen Eco Drive, never with an Invicta. jmho

I think the OP asked an interesting question as it relates to the uniqueness of Seiko's style. Now that I re-read his question, he's not criticizing the brand on their quality. He's suggesting that - on looks alone - they may not be blazing their own trail.

Seiko's inexpensive quartz watches everyone sees at the mall certainly have design cues that have features similar to Rolex. I see nothing in their better watches that even resembles slightly a Rolex. They are an amazing company that manufactures nearly every single part that makes up a watch, including the lubricant! They are not in the same world as Invicta.

Seiko has a rich tradition of innovation. I'd much rather have a GS or Spring Drive Seiko than any Hublot. Cannot believe this is even a serious question.

I think Seiko holds the record for the number of different models ever produced over the years.

Craig-
Perhaps someone has cataracts that need removing?!? The OP is convinced Seiko copies Rolex design. I don't agree with that claim, nor has anyone agreed. OP has provided zero proof whatsoever to back any claims he has proposed here. Zero.

I am also seeing that like INVICTA's habit of blatantly copying ROLEX designs, SEIKO is no less. Just look around and you will find thousands of examples where SEIKO has copied ROLEX designs.

SEIKOSs and INVICTAs make for good beater watches and good value but both are guilty of copying ROLEX designs.

Not trying to start a flame war here but I do not see ROLEX copying anyone's designs ...(except for the hodtorical 50fathoms thing with the submariner but that was long time ago).

OR

Maybe watches are such a small thing that there is not much you can do to them without looking like someone else's design???

I am not sure but definitely I do not rank SEIKO as high as I used to.

thank you
troll post? I see you own some seikos

Seikos have been and are still military issue watches for the US Navy. Started, if I am correct, during Vietnam. I've personally researched this fact and asked a few old Navy divers and they confirmed. In fact, the Seiko SKX 007, in some circles is "THE" watch to own if you're in the Navy. It was also my first automatic watch and I didn't think it looked anything like a Rolex. I've even gifted a SKX 009 to a friend who got hired at Pepsi Co.

Seiko imho is the best watch the Japanese ever produced. They're best sellers and they've been in the business since 1881, but Invicta on the other hand

This is going way too far... there are so many similarities between watches that it would be shallow to name them as Rolex copies.

Seiko has dive watches that have similarities with the Rolex submariner, they're definitely not copies. Perhaps Rolex is the one who copies here as Seiko is the older brand...

Seriously stop the flame already.

Seiko was my first good & proper watch, served me well & earned my respect.

but, if its a beater your looking for, i nominate the rolex submariner, that was my beater for a very long time!

Only exceptions perhaps being working with masonry....thats it... For that i would use my explorer II.

Cheers

Once again like many of your other post you just do not know what you are talking about.Rolex have not invented every single watch design on this planet thousands of watches look similar, just like they have since wrist watches started way back in the 1900s.

Seiko does make a few watches that are similar to iconic Rolex designs. Not identical, but similar. The one that pops to mind first is their homage to the Datejust. I don't know the model number but I have one that belonged to my grandfather. The battery has long since died and he replaced the bracelet with one of those springy jobs, but I loved him and therefore it's one of the few that will be around until I kick the bucket. I think of it less as a ripoff and more of a watch for the man who likes the classic Datejust look but doesn't have the gelt or the desire to spring for a Rolex. No hate here. And when I did get my grandfather's treasure box, there was the Seiko, a gold Omega, a ring from the Shriners and his Navy ID from the War. No Invicta.

Cataracts? Not a kind response to an opinion you disagree with.

Here. Enjoy a pic of my Seiko. Exact copy of a Rolex? No. Many similarities? Yes. I'm not saying Seiko doesn't have originality. But let's face it, these design cues are Rolex-inspired.

I love both brands (see my earlier comment) yet manage not to get incensed over the OP's question.

The real point should be not so much that Seiko has designed watches in the style of Rolex and others, but that many watch companies make watches with derivative styling, so what sense does it make to stick it to Seiko, especially when such is not their stock in trade, as with Invicta.

Every Seiko you buy has an in-house movement and you know that those are powerful words in the WIS community.

When and where I was a kid, Seiko was the watch to own if you had money or were successful on the level that I thought success was. People I knew didn't even dream of things like Rolex so it wasn't even a thought about who was copying and such. In fact my 16710 was the first Rolex I ever held in my hand and was bought from the only store I'd ever seen one live and in person.
The point is, due to my 'conditioning' I'm having a hard time recognizing the assumption (by some select few) of Seiko being anything but a fine watch. Seiko is a good watch and if they resemble a Rolex here and there that's ok with me as quite possibly the folks buying that model may not even know there's a Rolex model of a similar design.

I have been enjoying the Debate and the conversation at least has been "Civil".....but it sure is not worth having a "Stroke" over. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and what they buy is based on personal choice. It's okay to disagree but I sure am not going to get my "Skivvies in a Bunch" or lose sleep over what others think. Life is too short to get all upset or to even defend others' statements.....
