Local AD display case

Went to my local AD yesterday and found this beauty on display! But of course it was an exhibition piece. They also had a Batman, TT Daytona, OP 36 green dial, DD40, Yachtmaster on oysterflex among others.

Haven’t seen such a full case in years! What a tease!

Also tried on this Cartier Santos ADLC with rubber strap. This is such a stunner and comfortable watch. Most importantly….it’s available for purchase!! Haha

Nice watches. I don't like the display watches that are not for sale. I understand what they are trying to do but for me it would just make it worse not being able to buy one. Of course, it helps the Trusted Sellers as you can at least try on a watch before you buy it from them.

I think display watches are a good idea so people can try on and see if they like something.

All the exhibition only pieces are set to 10:10 and 31 seconds, they are a tease but I do at least the idea of trying on the watches, Also the AD’s are happy to show them and you can try on as many as you like. The Sales assistants don’t really have anything else to do especially in a Rolex only boutique.

Is there something notable about the time being set to 10:10 and 31 sec?

Display watches are commonly shown at 10:10 to frame the logo and the 12:00 position nicely. It also makes a pleasing, symmetrical check mark out of the two hands, with no overlap for easy viewing of the hands and the dial.

Putting the second hand in the 31 seconds area will keep everything as clean as possible and aid in the symmetry and dial view.

I wish they made that santos in the medium size without the date. It’s a stunner on the leather strap but the date function and size really mess it up. Looks too much like an Apple Watch at this size.

They cant sell these watches bc there is no movement in them. It’s only the empty case. Would be stupid for them to not put trackers in them too

My SA said that their exhibition pieces are real watches that has been "disconnected", and that they have been purchased by the AD themselves. And before they can sell it they need to send it back in to RSC to "reconnect" it, whatever that means.

They sell plenty, just you don’t see them as they go straight to preferred clients and nowhere near the windows these days. Virtually nothing hits the windows now due to massive demand.

Glad to see more and more ADs getting these watches. My AD told me they’re expecting theirs before the end of the new year. Still skeptical as to whether or not these display watches are truly non functional or not

Every AD is stop in has next to zero stock. Although I think that the current state of the watch world sucks, I think that having something to display and allow customers to try is great. There are many threads on here that state how many people just want to try something on to see if it would actually fit their wrist.

I think it’s great some ADs have dummy watches to try on. It at least adds back some of the enjoyment of this hobby.

So apparently this is a new thing Rolex implemented. The ADs I spoke to hate this idea. What’s the point of allowing customers to try them on if they can’t buy it. Most people who want a Rolex already have their mind on which one they want. ADs are frustrated with this idea.

I commented in another thread, I was in my AD this weekend. It was my first time ever in my history of doing business with them for 15yrs that their Rolex section was completely empty. Not even so much as a ladies DJ or Cellini.

I’ve been in there a few times and I always love listening to the conversations with prospective buyers. “Did the grey dealer clean you out?” “When do you get your shipment?” Etc etc. I was most recently in picking up my Kermit when someone was trying to buy a SS model. The envious eyes almost make me feel like I’m going to have to start conceal carrying to pick up my watches for now on

I was in my local AD picking up a link I had ordered and was waiting patiently for my SA to finish helping a couple that were ahead of me. They were trying on display sport models and looking at the "Tablet" the SA kept passing and retrieving from them. After a short while the SA left and returned with two "shopping bags" giving one to each of the couple. The couple left and the SA turns to me-
"Picking up your link says she?" Yes say I. Got anything on the tablet for me? A long pause and then C'mon-You know what the game is!

Some folks get watches others get links.

If display models only are the way to go for Rolex moving forward, I don't understand why they can't have each and every model in each and every configuration available for trial - zero reason.

I also dislike this practice.
