Is this a good trade? One gold Oysterflex for another

Hi guys, got a Paul Newman dial daytona osyterflex a month ago but saw a pic of the Skydweller and some reviews & I'm kinda swaying towards this one.

Seems my daytona has gone up in value and with the price of the SD, I can straight swap along with USD1k cash my way. Mine 2018 and SD 2020.

Is this a good trade?

If you prefer the skydweller it is. SD has a higher MSRP and is newer. Follow what you want to wear

If you prefer the SD go for it, I think the deal is fine.

My feelings for the SkyD changed after owning one. It's about like owning a GMT, a complication I have no real use for. In a multiple watch collection it's a bit of a pain going through the reset process everytime it comes around. I much prefer the Daytona to the SkyD although the SkyD may be better eye candy.

You would be wise to see if the SkyDweller suits your wrist. These two references are miles apart in how they wear

Great point as usual Brian

And yes. Miles and miles. Granted not OF in this pic but the size difference/wear is massive but being yours is a PM case maybe not as bad. I believe the PM Daytona models wear slightly bigger than there SS counterparts

Good advice here.

I think the trade is fair and equitable but do not consider doing it unless you have had that SkyD OF on your wrist. Not just any SkyD, but one on an OF. Preferably on multiple occasions.

I love that SkyD but only on other people. Doesn’t work on my wrist.

Like others have said, it's all a matter of what suits you.
As for me, I'm not a fan of the SD.

Thanks guys, some of the pros to having the SD is that you certainly don't see this watch every day in this iteration especially and the calendar is definitely useful. The con at this stage is that I reckon the value won't go up that much, just my prediction

Pros with the Daytona is that it is a great versatile watch to wear, the value seems to be increasing even though I got it grey, still rising. Cons are that Daytonas are fairly common here in HK, perhaps not this exact Paul Newman dial but Daytonas are pretty common in HK for sure.

Both watches I wouldn't wear to work, a bit flashy although the SD is a bit flashier, more gold on show whereas the Daytona has more black, the ceramic bezel. I would tend towards a flashier watch for this reason, as Hong Kong is so safe also

Feel like if you wanted a fluted bezel and some flash then you should have kept the DJ that you traded for the Daytona.

You're right the SkyD won't appreciate in value as much. And agree that HK is safer than most places but in my opinion the locale should not factor into the decision in buying a watch. Who knows you might need to move one day to one of these non HK riff raff places.

I guess typically I would suggest to stick with the watch you like the best and will appreciate the best. But maybe clarify what you're looking to do first with a watch. Is it to be flashy and stand out from the crowd? I've never heard anyone complain a gold Daytona isn't flashy enough.

As has been echoed by some, I think I would stick with the Daytona. Unless the SD is your only watch, and will never leave your wrist, they can be a pain to reset. Of course, you could always leave it full time in a winder when in disuse. Either way the svelte proportions and lower weight of the Daytona may also be missed.

SkyD is gorgeous. Its an upgrade from daytona according to rolex by almost 30% (!!). As long as it fits your wrist you win

Price and investment aside, it’s a no for me. SKyD is much larger, and I prefer the way the Daytona sits on my wrist.

Your Daytona is hands down my grail. SD is very cool, but a bit overrated IMO. I would not make that trade under any circumstances. But that’s just me.

I have owned the SD in PM and liked it. I have also owned numerous Daytona's in PM and liked them also. The Daytona is more of a Rolex classic and the SD is something new and a watch you will not see everywhere. If I had to pick it would be the SD as it fits my 7.5-7.75 inch wrist better and has a real wrist presence, for better or worse depending on what you are looking for. I currently own all three dial variations of the SD in SS and both of the SS Daytona-C's and the SD's get more wrist time.

Thanks guys, still thinking about it & tried it on yesterday. A double wrist shot to show how it fits on my wrist. I think definitely wearable

If you plan on keeping it long term, the fluted gold bezel will scratch easy and pretty much is unpolishable without it being degraded a lot.

I'd do that swap. I think an annual calendar and GMT function is a lot more useful than a stopwatch.

The fact that the dealer is offering you a bit of cash with the trade should tell you he also prefers to have the Daytona. The PM Sky has always been an overpriced watch that's why we always used to see it in windows and typically buy it to build an AD relationship in order to get a Daytona, you're kind of going backwards bro.

Ask yourself this, would you have traded the DJ41 blue and 33usd for OFSky? It's the right configuration for the Sky I just always disliked the dial and prefer the cleaner DJ look for fluted.
