I’ll take all bets the 5711 doesn’t hit 100k on the forums in 2020. ZFG what some jackoff at an auction pays on any given Sunday with premium.

Not good in horological history, but I believe Franck Muller as a formerly hot brand became unfashionable (actually pretty much unwearable) quickly again, Panerai was all the rage and is not anymore, some JLC Master Compressors... I am sure there are much better examples.

Primary difference being those brand are, pretty much in their entirety, compromised - and never had the history, pedigree, allure that PP started with. The Nautilus, as a model, may become less desirable - but there is floor because the brand, itself, is much stronger for much longer than any of those cited examples. Its more akin to the pre-ceramic Daytona bubble and Rolex, to me. They stopped becoming impossible to get and trading at several times sticker price - but the bottom did not fall out (at least not compared to retail). |

The day I bought my 116600 (2015) they pulled a white dial 116520 Daytona out of the safe and offered it to me as a second time buyer. I did the math and it was about 1-2k cheaper online. They wouldn’t budge off sticker.
Even funnier the day after the 116500 was announced I called my Patek AD who also carries Rolex and they offered me the black and white 116520s from the safe. Of course I passed. Only prior purchase history with that Patek dealer was buying you guessed it a 5711 white for a 5% discount from the case. Things can return to sanity. Whether they will or not is anyone’s guess.

While the 5711 is a great watch and in my top 5 it isn’t worth anywhere NEAR $70k. 15%-20% premium...ok...
I wish we could see ACTUAL realized cost statistics (which we never will) — as well as what dealers are buying them at...I suspect folks would be shocked. |

it is crazy that one can sell a simple 5711A and buy an FP Journe chronometer Rattrapante for the money earned with the 5711

Normally I love a bracelet on a sports piece but much like the 5960/1a it’s almost like the bracelet kills it. Still would love to try one on.

Believe it or not...I agree with this. It’s not a $70k watch.

200k...not sure...probably not; however, I tend to think of these similarly (not exact) to very old vintage Bordeaux, Burgudy etc.... how many “original” or “well preserved” examples are still out there? |

In list price terms, I'm seeing an $18k - $20k differential. That's insanity. |

And especially since IMO the white dial 5711 is the more attractive model (and blue is my favorite color).

I still wonder what the median sale price is for the blue dial in the secondary market. |

Not sure David has read this thread, but he has just listed an unworn 5711 for 72,875.

I cannot imagine many sell for those prices. What are they paying buyers for them? 60k? 50k? Less? They have plenty of wiggle room and everyone makes money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

The older 5711 models can be found for an asking price in the low $60Ks for the blue dial and low $50Ks for the white dial. |

Absolutely. I imagine the final sale prices of grey 5711s vary quite a bit.
