Love all the Daytona pics posted so far. It is by far my favorite Rolex! Hoping for a WG on oysterflex someday in the future but very grateful my 116508.

Already posted a pic earlier but here is another one just for fun.

The choice was, are you interested in this? And I said yes.

In my mind I figured the white gold but when I saw this, it was amazing how beautiful it was. So that was it.

Gladly!

As some background information, I have a 6.5 inch wrist and prefer watches that fly under the radar. Over the past decade I’ve owned a few datejusts, gmts, and subs and have converged on the daytona for its balance of size, elegance, and sport, straddling the line between both worlds.

116500: I’ve owned this watch for about 1.5 years now. With its asymmetric lugs and super slim profile, it is the perfect size for me. I wear the oyster bracelet tight and above my wrist bone and the watch just melts into my wrist. It is smart looking and elegant but not over-the-top. A 10/10.

116519: I’ve owned this watch for only a couple of months. It wears noticeably larger, almost too large. (Again, I am very sensitive to size.) This is due to its symmetrical and expanded lugs adding more beef and weight, though the weight is a good thing. I ended up having the original D/F oysterflex bracelets switched to D/E at the RSC* and now I’ve got the tight bracelet fit that I’m looking for. Nevertheless it is bulkier and doesn’t hug the wrist like the 116500 bracelet. When viewed at a distance in a mirror the size looks fine, but from my eye’s perspective it is big. The dial is simply outstanding. My favorite in the current catalog. I occasionally notice the pushers catching the light and they sparkle beautifully. The WG is subtly different from SS but is noticeable and feels quite special. Others probably won’t notice the difference but I don’t care. I don’t wear my watches for others to see. An 8/10 due to the all around larger profile that is not right for me (but that others probably will prefer!).

*One other comment: my recommendation would be to size the oysterflex based on the number of oyster links and not based on the Rolex measuring tape. This has been discussed elsewhere on the forum.

Hope this is useful. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

Good stuff David, thank you. I am new to Daytona, and did not realize the PM version has matched lug sizes.
I know this is a neophyte type question, but why did Rolex build the 116500 with “unmatched” lugs ? Purely aesthetic ?
I will say, it is very hard to detect through photos.

PS … To me, you have a perfect pair of Daytona watches.

Thanks for the reply!

I agree that the difference in cases is difficult to see in photos, but it is noticeable on the wrist. The SS, T/T, and yellow gold (on a bracelet) all have the same slimmer case dimensions and share the asymmetric lugs. The white gold, rose gold, and platinum models, and all oysterflex models (in all colors of gold) have larger symmetrical cases.

I recall seeing a post here on TRF about Rolex intentionally making the cases asymmetric on certain models to balance the extra weight added by the pushers. This makes sense to me, and I actually prefer the case this way. Though I believe I am in the minority on this opinion.

Also, thanks for the kind words on my small collection. I've had a lot of fun with this hobby and have enjoyed trying new watches as my tastes have changed over the years.
