I think there is a big cost if bezel needs replacing or is damaged.

Damaged as in scratched is much cheaper than damage to a ceramic for instance. In what situation would you see the damage requiring replacement?

Rolex can replace the ceramic insert only. On the other hand, they can re-finish the bezel on the YM. No downside to either.

I agree, Paul; just looking at relative costs of refinishing a Pt or replacing a Ceramic.!!!

I recently bought another YM with blue dial. I prefer the blue dial over the rhodium. It fits like my 5 digits and can stand on its own in the Rolex lineup.

Pictures don't do the watch justice though. It's very nice piece. Cheers!
Funnily enough, your post led me to the "dismanteling" post of the watch, where it states that the platinum bezel weights 10g, which is such a low amount it made me completely dismiss the watch.

Cool it's platinum, but such a minuscule amount, it's not worth the premium over SS IMO. Also, I finally noticed what annoyed me with the YM. Sometimes I find it spectacular looking, despite the curved lugs the mirror-polish, which I'm not a fan of.

No, actually I discovered that I don't like painted hands! When looking at the PM YM, I really like it because all hands shine.

But still, you can find pictures of it online where it looks incredible, and it's not too bad in real. I just don't think it's worth the 2k premium over a stainless sub.

Sold my YM40 116622 pt dial 10 days ago after 5 1/2 years ownership (first Rolex). It was a grail, thoroughly enjoyed it then got a bit bored and wanted something more colourful to spice up the collection. I bought the Bluesy 126613LB which is amazing.

Then after a few days I started to miss the Yachtty, its quiet confidence and understatement. I realised how big a mistake it was to have parted with it as it was also a great complement to the Bluesy. So I bought it back from the shop yesterday. You live and you learn...

I believe the ceramic insert is around $400 Lee. Not sure the cost related to refinishing the bezel on the YM. I still love the YM in any flavor

Gracias Francisco. No way, cost me €1,500, although they were selling it for €3k more but they split it in half.

Indeed... My wife isn't happy, she strongly advised me against selling the YM, should have listened to her. Sometimes you don't fully appreciate something until you lose it. But I learnt my lesson.

Wears a bit smaller than a sub, feels like a 39mm. Crown guard , overall thickness , and lug to lug are all slightly smaller. Lugs also curve to fit the profile of the wrist where the sub is mostly flat. Subtle, but positive differences. A millimeter here and a millimeter there end up making a difference. I think it wears great.

Approximate range cost for sandblasting is $75 to about $150; I just had one done.

Compared to ceramic it won't chip if heavily knocked.

With the YM vs. the Sub you have the extra benefit of being able to change the dial when you do a service. Reference 116622 came in platinum, blue and rhodium dials; ref 126622 comes in blue and rhodium.

Possibly a hard ding/gouge. Won't be happening to mine if I can help it but it could happen.

Metal can be added and refinished. I've not done that personally. I'd err on the side of the Pt having greater likelihood of lasting in a serious hit than ceramic.

haha well said!

To OP: It's a fantastic piece. First one added to my collection. IMO it's a cleaner sub. Proportions are better and more versatile with the polished/brushed finishing and, if you go for the Rhodium, it really flys under the radar. The blue second hand & writing gets me every time. I find that the dark blue dial is more available than Rhodium, but if you find it definitely check it out - you'll likely walk out with it ;)

To be honest, I'm considering a sub because it's the iconic Rolex, and seems like a "Rolex collection" isn't complete without one. Plus I currently have a DJ with a domed bezel and a GMT-II Coke with the aluminum bezel, I wanted to try owning a ceramic bezel. But the YM has such a unique bezel that I really like it. And it looks like a nice under-the-radar way of owning a PM watch (well, sort of PM -- Rolesium/platinum bezel at least) and at one point I was thinking of a Blusey TT Sub, but even TT seems too showey for my taste.

Definitely give it a second look. 40mm is perfect for me, as the case is much more tapered than the other sports 40s. Before you buy, look at it in the sunlight! You'll loose your mind.

This has left me looking at other watches from the brand and I noticed the yachmaster 40 was one that seemed to occasionally be available at retail but doesn’t get much love.

I started doing more research on it and even tried it on recently. Really like the watch and the way it feels but the bonus is that it isn’t a watch I have to play games to get.

Would love to hear from those with experience of this watch or in the know your thoughts? Is there a reason this isn’t so popular? Issues with platinum bezel?

Thanks

Traded my blue YM plus cash for a BLRO recently. The YM is gorgeous but wears a bit too small for my wrist. I also love GMT complications so it was a no brainer for me. The YM HPCL also scratches a lot IMO.
