PP Service
I'm new to PP, and have a question about service. Where do folks in the USA recommend? Right now my watch is new, so I have some time. But when the day comes, what's the best place to use?
From the PP website it looks like all of the shops listed are ADs. |

Thanks. The problem is that there is no Patek Service Center in the USA. They all seem to be independant shops like Henri Stern and Govberg.
Are those the only choices here in the USA or can our AD send them out to a real service center? Thanks for the input. |

Hello Wimbledon -
For what it's worth, I recently visited the Henry Stern agency in NYC to inquire about service for my grandfather's Patek pocket watch which was made c. 1925. BTW, no appointment is needed - you just show up and they can offer guidance for servicing on-the-spot. In my case, they were extremely helpful. They immediately had one of their senior technicians open it up and look at the pocket watch while I waited. They told me it may take up to 3 years and $15k to repair, since they always repair to original specification so any necessary parts would be made according to the original blueprints they maintain in Geneva. They also said that while unlikely (because the watch isn't running now), it is possible that just a complete servicing/cleaning with no new parts would suffice, but they wouldn't know until they sent it to Geneva to check it out, which would take 3-4 months and $600 for an estimate (which would be applicable to the service cost if I chose to have them perform the recommended work). Given that this piece is a simple pocket watch with no complications, and therefore of very modest market value these days, I elected to not have them service it. Instead, I went with Grand Central Watch in NYC, which apparently is well regarded. So my advice is: for a Patek wristwatch of reasonable market value, I would always have Patek (i.e. Henry Stern in NYC) service it - I would not let a 3rd party touch any of my Patek wristwatches. But in this particular case, my Patek pocket watch has comparatively little value, so I couldn't justify a service cost that would be several multiples of the actual value of the watch, hence I went with 3rd party servicing (Grand Central Watch as noted earlier). I hope this information is helpful to you, and best of luck with your servicing, cheers. - MadSpaniard |

There is a wealth of knwowledge on this forum with many people who are willing to help someone new.
Henri Stern Watch Agency is the official Patek USA office and most US Patek owners send their watch there for service. Some send their watches to Geneva or use independent ADs with Patek certified watchmakers. |

I only give to my AD for any service on any of my Pateks. Simple easy and slow. Be prepared to wait but thats exactly the reason I justify owning multiple pateks to my wife. When the watch comes back from service its like a new piece coming in.

Henri Stern in NYC is Patek Phillippe, is the US importer and is the company service center. For you to equate Henri Stern to Govberg, and call them an independent shop, was just strange that's all.
