I’d agree with this statement. The nautilus bubble is rather new, RMs been like this for quite awhile.

How has the price trends been for the RM models? You had mentioned in the RM section that it felt like news flow or activity around the brand felt slow

It seems to me that nautilus movement happened quickly and as a knee jerk reaction to what was already happening to other brands. It wasn’t too long ago I got a 5990/5711r under retail.

This has been the case in RM for the popular models since I started collecting. My comment in the other thread is in reference to the grey dealers stocking up aggressively on these models with the prices still going up. Now that they have all paid well over retail and are sitting on large inventories, I can see it starting to slow as greys start to protect their investment.

I feel like it’s the exact opposite with PP- how many IG posts do you see of people offering to buy every aquanaut and nautilus under the sun.

Anyway, I hope that makes my point

The Nautilus bubble is obscene. I have a 5711 and am adding a few more Nautilus pieces, but no way I'd pay the grey prices for them. I added a 5710P recently, and that and my 5711 in steel are worth within $15k of each other, which is absolutely ridiculous -- the Nautilus is nice, but the 5170P is at an entirely different level.

That being said, I don't think it's any worse than RMs going for double list, especially when we're talking about this meaning six-figure premiums. For what most popular "entry-level" time-and-date-only NTPT RMs are going for -- seems to be $200-250k from my brief research on C24 -- you can get high complication pieces from AP (a tourbillon AND a PC) or PP (5270P AND a 5711 on the grey market).

I think both bubbles will pop quite brutally, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Plus... IMHO I think RM collectors are at different level to PP collectors. Eg. A simple time only RM55 is retail at PP’s “PC grand complication” plus heavy premium.

The overall theme is when a major shift in the economy happens the people who were treating their watch box like a fun trading account will be out of the mix. This will also make it less sexy to new buyers as these pieces are no longer going up in value. Many of the fringe collectors, of which I have noticed we have many, will exit the hobby.

I cannot count how many people I see who have been collecting for 2 years and have half a million in watches lol

I recently purchase RM 61-01 Yohan Blake and 030.

Sold the 61 at retail after 4 months. And 030 is about coming next month.
I also have some Rolex, but IMO, RM bubble hasn't really started yet because of the entry level and the difficulty of getting an easy piece like black Submariner. They will lose $$$$ if they don't know what to buy.

Own a nautilus, never liked RM the style is not for me, although they really know how to market their watches.

Purchased an 11-03 a couple years ago. It’s a striking piece and refreshingly different than the offerings from Rolex, Patek etc. At some point, collecting can become stale when limiting oneself to the traditional brands. That was my experience and eventually sought a watch that offered high end finishing and technology but with a fresh look.

Is that as tall as it looks?

it's not short, that's for sure. I prefer the 11s in ntpt or ceramic as a result.

It’s quite tall and therefore a t-shirt watch only in my books. Ironically that while RM markets its watches as being a ‘racing machine on the wrist’, I’m unable to fit my racing glove over it and revert to my Daytonas whenever I compete.

Purchase two Pateks this year, love them.
After my recent visit to Richard Mille, I fell in love with them.
Trying to decide between RM30, RM 23 or RM 61-01 as my first piece. Love the 67-02 in white or red, but that will be a long wait.

Love the c0ncept if RM. Don’t own any but I really respect the brand. I mostly am interested in the older titanium stuff.

I’ve really struggled to broaden my collection as tend to be a sucker for Rolex, AP, and Patek.

I’ve tried others including Omega, TAG, JLC, Bremont, Tudor etc. but they struggle for wrist time.

My problem is that I have pretty small wrists and I like sports watches, so I’m pretty limited in my options.

Currently looking for something quite different so might go Patek 5524G which is very different to anything else I’ve had, and also considering a Parmigiani Toric which is a total departure from the norm.

I really fancy a Ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual but I can’t see myself getting on a list for one of them sadly.
