Advice to buy vintage Calatrava

All,

I have a number of watches PP and Rolex but my significant other just borrows mine on occasion. She has a large birthday coming up and has always had an eye for vintage men’s calatravas. I’d like some advice on where or who to buy one from. I’m open to all suggestions of websites as well as dealers. I’d like to keep the budget under $10K to the extent possible.

Thanks!

Might be tricky under 10 usd, 3919 perhaps? 5196 would probably be a fair bit more. Some of the earlier classic calatravas can be pretty expensive as sought after. Maybe around early 2000s pieces within budget range.
I've seen people in States recommend Europeanwatch but haven't bought from them before.

Best of luck

You could look at the 96 and 3796 which will be within your 10k budget. Both are predecessors of the current 5196. At 30 or 31mm they are small by today's standards even for a woman. Another option might be a 3445J though I don't like it very much personally. Many beautiful vintage pieces such as a 570, 2508, or 2526, or any of the SS 3417, 3466, or 3483 are not within your budget.

If 1990s or early 2000s is vintage enough a 34mm 3998J would be another option within your 10k budget (or the 3919 if you fancy a hobnail bezel). I have a 3998P and it is prob my fav watch ahead of my 5711/1A.

Yeah sorry I meant if looking for pre 5196.. Hard to find good 90s examples less than 15k USD especially of you want nice box and papers. Earlier than that, very good pieces can be much more.
The 3919 series makes sense if that's a piece she would like

Thanks for all of the recommendations. I don’t need box and papers just something she can wear often and well. She’s not going to be afraid to take this to work everyday at a tech company either.

Have a look at Hqmilton, quite a few within budget without box papers and a nice 3992j full set - https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...patek-philippe
