I like the idea. But it would lose some of it's exclusivity. That is part of the appeal. With that being said my credit card would have a hole in it from the charge.

The day date should never be made in stainless. It should only be a PM model.

I think DD should be PM only. That's why they have DJ in 2 sizes and no PM / President bracelet.

Ditto, should have stayed a stainless insert combination IMO, we should have that as our next forum debate!

Patek made a steel Calatrava this year, and it’s already trading at crazy prices.

Please Not

My opinion that is bad idea, beacuse DD is premium model of Rolex.
If Rolex will start make that model in SS probably Rolex will lose own Premium Model and will devaluate crown.
Is somebody want to have similar model in SS there is Date Just model.
Just Yellow Gold is Gold!
This is just my opinion.

The one that sold at auction 15 years ago is just about perfect. If I had a “grail, I guess this would be it, unless one of the other five has a black dial.

If rolex made a stainless day-date, would you buy one?

Rolex markets the DD brilliantly making people think the complication is high end, tying it to precious metals. It really isn’t though if you consider it practically speaking. That said, it probably wouldn’t do them any good to introduce one in SS. It would sit at a very grey area in their lineup and probably wouldn’t generate much in sales to risk mucking up the “image” of their product lines. Would I buy one? Probably not.

Agreed. It costs negligibly more to make a day complication. That being said, I think they’d sell very well a bit under the steel SkyDweller, at maybe $12K ish US, which would be a nice profit for Rolex compared to the DateJust.

They took the SkyDweller to steel because it was a complete dog at the original price point in PM only. The DD, in all sizes and metals, is a consistent, strong performer. It is aspirational, and is viewed by most as the pinnacle of Rolex’ line (even though we all know there are many more expensive pieces). There is no compelling reason for them to make a DD in SS. The millions in extra sales would be quickly offset by the impact of the loss of exclusivity and some degree of parasitic loss when PM purchasers choose to save the money and buy steel instead.

I’m fairly confident that a DD in steel is not going to happen.

If this went to SS it would be a sign the firm was struggling, but the exact opposite seems to be true.

If they released the DD in SS - I would switch brands for sure.

Then I know Rolex has lost its way.

I would buy one in a heartbeat. I wish I could buy a Tudor DD in America.

Many of us think Rolex already lost its way over the last decade, so I think a reissue of an extremely limited, non-blingy watch like this would be a cool step in the right direction.

This thing sold for around $52,000 CHF 15 years ago!

Day-Date is an icon and even that i do not show off my Day-Date at all, i feel certain pride of my Platinum DD40. Part of Day-Date is it’s heft. If it would feel like BLNR or Daytona C what comes to weight, it would not feel right. You are supposed to feel DD. President bracelet made of SS would feel pretty bad IMO. Day-Date is a watch with reliability, durability and prestige... rare combination.

Rolex prices have a big premium for buying longevity. You can buy a watch and you know there won’t be new model every year, or decade, which depreciates the older one totally. Rolex Day-Dates sell well due to their iconic status and as economy is rising at the moment, they will sell a lot better in the near future as well.

When somebody has a DD it is also a tiny insurance that person wearing it most likely has at least some economic stability. Unless last money is spent to that watch DD is a choice that tells something about a person IMO, different story everytime i quess, but anyway.

I think making SS version, would depreciate DD. And i would consider it as desperate move by Rolex and it would make Rolex different, something i am interested of. I could buy a Richard Mille as it would make no difference compared to Rolex Let’s get a king of depreciation then
Agree 100%
