My BLNR Experience yesterday.

To start off I live in Wisconsin, traveled down to Illinois to look at some cars that I'm interested in. Right by one of the dealerships is an AD, as a watch enthusiast, I feel I'm obligated to stop (haha). I was more just curious about their inventory, purchasing a watch wasn't even on my radar.

Recently, I've been interested in the BLNR, just caught my eye as a 'cool watch.' After walking in, I browsed their inventory and honestly, nothing caught my eye that I'd even want to see out of the case. Then I asked if they had the BLNR said: "Yes, we just got one in this morning and isn't even checked into inventory and not sure if it's sold." I still wanted to see it, see if it would work on my wrist etc. We then found out at that particular moment it wasn't sold yet. At that point, I fell in love with the watch but didn't want to make an impulse buy, so I declined. I knew full well that the watch would be sold by the end of the day.

After the hour drive home I couldn't keep my mind off the watch! Couple times I was tempted to turn around. Once I got home I said "F*** it, I need it" so I called the Wisconsin AD's (that were open at that time 3:45 pm on Saturday...) just to give them an opportunity to give them my business. The only one that was open did not have one.

I then proceeded to call the dealer in Illinois stating that I'd like to purchase. As I was on the phone someone was in the store looking at the watch, all I was hoping is that individual didn't see the value in the watch. She took my CC information and address and told me if this person didn't buy it, she'd get it for me.

After waiting an hour 4:40 or so (they close @ 5), I called back to see if she was able to grab it for me. She said it was sold. I then proceeded to ask if that individual that was in store purchased it. She stated, "No." My only thought is that a 'repeat customer' that has experience with that AD was able to get it before me.

She then said she could put the amount on my credit card and I get the next one that comes in, I was uncomfortable at that considering it could be multiple months and I'd like to keep my options open w/ other AD's.

All in All, what a day! I know it was my fault for missing it, I just thought it might be fun to share.

If that person is on this forum got that watch, I dislike you, but I'm happy for you!

Attached is a picture of it on my wrist, Is it too big? that was my only concern

Same thing happened to me recently. I was in an AD buying a Daytona when low and behold there was a BLNR sitting in the case. I had a GMT LN at the time that got a LOT of wrist time. I made the mistake of trying the BLNR on. Game over. I didn’t want to do an impulse buy either so I walked out with just the Daytona (I know just a Daytona). But the next morning I called back and it was still there so I bought it!

It looks pretty big on your wrist. I have a 7 1/4inch wrist and my Sub is plenty big, and my 36dj is just a touch small. For all around wearing I go to my 36dj as it is just more comfortable, my Sub plays second fiddle unless I am actually in the mood or doing some aquatic hobby.

It’s a popular reference so you would’ve been lucky if it was still there. Better luck next time

This is good to know, my 'day to day' watch is a 36DJ, after just measuring my wrist its about 6.5in. I guess my thought is if I dislike it I could sell it on here or a jeweler on here for close to what I paid for (maybe I'm wrong)

As it happens, I bought my BLNR yesterday and I have a 6.5” wrist. I can say categorically it is not too big. Wrist shots don’t accurately represent the actual look of the watch. If you’re in a position to try again, check it out in a full length mirror. I suspect height and overall build makes a difference to how a watch looks on a person too.

In this environment the strong resale will close the deal for many fence-sitters ... as long as they don't dilly dally too long.

Watch looks great on you. You have a good attitude with that situation. That can be a tough lesson.

You won't dislike it. It looks as such because its not sized. Once you get some links taken off, it will fit perfectly.

Good luck with getting the next one!

I got my BLNR by pure luck back in August. Went to the AD to browse with a friend, and there it was sitting in the case. Tried it on, but didn't want to make a impulse purchase. Me and my friend went for lunch, and I decided to pull the trigger. Came back after lunch and thankfully it was still there - the sales guy told me I was pretty lucky it didn't sell in the interim as it was a slow morning.

Sometimes I avoid impulse buys by leaving the AD, getting some lunch, or doing other shopping, going back an hour or two later. Then make the purchase feeling as though it wasn't impulse.

Wasn’t meant to be.
Seems Rolex USA shipped many of these in December to ADs.
Mine got theirs mid month and it appears many for sale in classifieds.

Very interesting story!
The exact same thing (at least the first part of the story) happened with me! I was in Oklahoma giving a lecture and thought to check by the nearby AD. I was checking for a hulk and they said “no but we just got a BLNR if you’re interested to see it”. Not really interested, I said “sure why not”
They brought it out and it was love at first sight!!

I immediately pulled the trigger and they shipped to my house the following day!

I’m sure you’ll get the watch you want at the time meant to be!

Just MSRP (~$8900 usd), from my understanding they cannot markup items, only discount.

Yes they cannot markup and for “sought after” models it’s very unlikely to get a discount!

I was at my AD yesterday and he was telling me that even black sub date and I date are “list watches”

What a great story. I think the BLNR looks great on you and is not to big but if you feel it is, then you either have to get used to it’s size, because so many rolex are 40mm or go to a Daytona which is also 40mm but wears and looks a bit smaller

Absolutely right. I made that mistake recently faffing about over a Sky Dweller. My wife had doubts. I didnt. Once I managed to get past the doubts, it had gone. This was over the space of two hours.
