As a few others have said, play a tight range. If somebody is playing every hand (high VPIP) you can play hands with a wider range against them.

Crush Live and Solve For Why are good resources.

And yes, I play quite often at the 2-5 and 5-10 levels :)

I have played at the 2-5 tables a (very) few times, was scared to death. One time, every table was clobbered with long waits for every game. They said there was an opening at the 5-10, did I want it? I thought: “If you don’t have four of a kind fold and you’ll be fine.” So I sat down and pretended to play. I felt like a minnow in a shark tank

You probably did better than you think. Nobody really knows what the hell they're doing but the game is easier when you take the $$$ out of the equation and just play. When you quantify bets and raises to tangible goods, it'll hurt your game.

Nothing better than, ah hell, I just lost a pot that could have put me on a Caribbean cruise for 2 weeks

OP can't play ranges if doesn't know how to construct a range. if you can't construct a range, you can not exploit ranges.

I play a few times a year, played a lot of poker back in the day. I play with a buddy that played for a living for almost 10 years. I learned valuable poker lessons. Their is a massive difference between someone who plays a lot of poker, even at a higher than average level, vs someone that plays for a living. That’s why i typically play 1/2 and just play for fun. I am likely not getting stacked by anyone at the table, and if it does happen its like $300, maybe $600 if i reload.

I am the worst type of poker player. If i win $500, it doesn’t change my day or get me going, if i lose $500 i immediately think i would rather have bought a box of cigars haha. I typically just stay away but i love the game.

I played poker as a kid with my siblings (we had that dog betting plate/saucer thingy that explained what trumped what and won that round. Does that count at all ?!?

I remember back when ESPN lost hockey and it went to NBC, and I was bored clicking channels and looked at ESPN again and there was poker on. (And snooker).

I thought OMG, this is where ESPN is going. Poker. It's like watching paint dry, and these posers sitting there........

So anyways I left it on and lo and behold to my absolute amazement I sort of got hooked on watching it. Ok, I sort of get it.

I guess it's like people from the US watching the Winter Olympics and they get stuck watching Curling (what the hell is Curling), and after a while you go hey, this actually can get exciting. Or not.

Perhaps it has to do with how much you're drinking at the time.
