Vacheron-Constantin: they retired all white gold traditionelle models?

I am deep into looking for a classic dress watch, and have been mulling over the usual suspects, including the Patek 5196G, ALS Saxonia Thin, and the VC Traditionelle.

After looking around, I was pretty much decided on getting the VC Traditionelle manual wind in white gold - the version featured on their website. And by featured, I do not mean the watch is on the VC website, but more than that - it’s the reference that headlines the Traditionelle section of the VC website: https://www.vacheron-constantin.com/...tionnelle.html

I was just told that VC retired all of the white gold and platinum versions of the Traditionelle. So, pink gold is the only version on offer now. This seems odd, does anyone know more context? Is something new about to drop? What’s the business rationale? No doubt I’m missing something!

Super sad I missed the window on this one . . . .

I think the White Gold is the version to get. I used to have the RG one in my collection, but ultimately it was just a little too dressy and I couldn't dress it down for my personal tastes. If i were to rebuy the model, I'd get WG. I hadn't heard that it was discontinued, but the 82172 has been around since 2010 i think? So it may be due for a refresh.

I agree, and thanks for the comment. I like the RG, but for this one, it has to be white gold for versatility. I suspect it won’t be long until they release something new as a replacement, perhaps as soon as this spring.

Or perhaps as soon as this or next week.

Really, why is that? What am I missing? (something obvious no doubt!)

Can't remember where it was mentioned that VC is about to update the Traditionelle line with new models.

White gold or platinum, in my opinion, are the ones to get for versatility. It's a perfect dress watch that can easily be dressed down. It is perfectly sized and sits so well on the wrist.

The only problem I've had is the curved spring bars limiting strap options.

Yup, that’s the one I want. Great photo, thanks for posting!
