Every watch I've purchased was sight unseen. Stick to trusted / verified members and dealers. Haven't had an issue yet.

I've done it twice: TT DJ and Sub. Mixed feelings. The best thing would be to have them (or good dummies) on the wrist to see all the angulations and light conditions on that specific watch. I found YG in poor cold light in contrast with steel, all the same found the hour markers on the five digit sub in poor light too small. Now I try to find huge amounts of opinions, critics, photos under different light and angulations, I hope this will be the solution. Anyway, if you can switch a watch without huge losses, you can bear better the risk of a (partially) wrong purchase.

I’ve bought several watches sight unseen (of course, I watched several YouTube video reviews). Haven’t been disappointed yet

Trying a watch on for five minutes doesn't help me much at all. My local grey allows me to try for 24 hours.

I bought two Pateks, one AP and one Speedy sight unseen. BLNR and Sea Dweller bought from grey dealer and sized it at RSC Singapore in front of the dealer before paying. Now hunting for ceramic Daytona black locally here in Singapore. i now have decided only to buy face to face deals. the whole sight unseen thing is a mine field these days.

This is normal. Especially in the case of steel sport Rolex. You’ll find it’s difficult to pull the trigger on other watch brands ( IWC, JLC etc.)

So by “sight unseen” you mean you’ve “seen” pics or? I’m confused.

the seller will send you a ton of pictures from different angles of the watch for you to look at including box and papers. But seeing the watch in person, one can tell if there are any minute scratches on case and/or bracelet better than in pictures. pictures speaks a thousand words but seeing is believing.

Like some have said, during the/this lockdown there was no other choice but to buy sight unseen. None of my previous watches were bought sight unseen, I always like to be able to hold/see and try on a watch before purchase.

But just last week I bought a Tudor BB58 Navy sight unseen, although not hugely expensive. But in terms of going for Rolex/Tudor I think I could buy a NEW watch sight unseen because I know what I'm getting pretty much from this brand. And just today I've bought a Speedy, yes I tried one on many years ago, but I can't remember it at all but pulled the trigger regardless so essentially that was bought sight unseen too. All based off of YouTube vids and photos.

Regards,
M

Similar position to you - 6 watches, 3 bought in the collection bought sight unseen, though I looked at a lot of pictures/vids. Thankfully Tim Mosso has the exact same wrist size as me lol. Also depends what you are buying, the flip side of the hype is that in a short period at least you can almost buy and try the watch out and know you will get what you paid for it. I bought the bb58 black and didn’t like the gilt dial, when the blue was released a few months later I sold it for a small margin and got the blue. I basically got a discount on the blue just for owning the black for a bit. I would probably want to try on for softer models or brands, but they are easier to come by, which is why I could try my zenith a few times before buying.

I feel like when people post wrist shots in here I get a better sense of what they look like for my wrist size. So that is helping inform my choice, while there are none in the showcase.

I feel like this is a fair question as in your original post you made specific mention to it.

Recognizing that I'm in your age group (34) and though I do pretty well have never labeled myself this term I'm equally curious what the definition of it is here, in this context.

With that said- I buy most pieces sight unseen. AD's know what I want and I typically receive a text or call when something is in and wire funds to pay then pick it up afterwards.

Same here.

I became familiar with the style, size, etc. of interest while progressing through less expensive brands during the start up stages. The many posted photos here on TRF is also beneficial ! I’m very decisive, only buy from a trusted seller, and never been disappointed.

I admit early on using a “ready, fire, aim” approach, in two cases sight unseen. I traded one of these and the other sits with no wrist time. Smarter now and don’t encourage others to be so impulsive. Currently much more focused on two brands, Rolex being one of the two. Now know the watches of interest and have tried for fit, usually, so it is now “ready, aim, fire” with good results although not yet perfect.

Cheaper watches sure, but when I get into the thousands I definitely have to see the watches in the metal prior to purchase. With so many rendered images on companies' websites I find it important to see the watch in person to not only judge the fit but also the colors. Also watches definitely look different (smaller) in person than the magnified images we see online which can lead to a totally different wearing impression when one tries it on and looks in the mirror.

Bought my Daytona back in December sight unseen. Got the call and said I’ll immediately put it on my Amex. Picked it up later that night.
