I cannot wait until John Mayer pumps it in the next Talking Watches. Im sure both him and Ben Clymer got a 39mm. They will make it into a cult watch, the “perfect Rolex”.

When I tried to sell mine to them, WF UK told me they have 9 in stock, even though they are showing none for sale.

I'm really anxious to see the new 36mm Explorer's in person and will likely pick one up for my son. It'd be cool to have the whole father/son, 39/36 combo. There's no way I'm parting with my 39mm Explorer. For me it's the perfect size and such a coherent design with the lumed 3,6,9 matching the lumed batons.

Per my original post....I love that people who love watches are keeping their 214270's. I've always thought that the Explorer was different from the rest of the lineup in that way. I'm sure there are some gray dealers buying the few up that come on the market, but I think the bulk of them will stay on the wrists of those who bought them because they love them.

To be honest, mk2 has the true ordinary Explorer look with 369 lumed dial and sportier for sure. However, I have started to appreciate the weirdness of my mk1 even more now. 14270/114270/214270 mk2/124270 are more or less the same dial under the same family, while 1016/214270mk1 are the only two models that look far apart from the ordinary design of Rolex Explorer. In the long run, people would realize that mk1 is a true collectible piece. Last but not least, you can always take the mk1 back to Rolex and have them replace the hands and dials with mk2's, so it's a plus.
I had the mk1 and really enjoyed it. It was imperfect, but that gave it some character. The white gold 3,6,9 was really cool. I prefer the mk2 because it's more coherent, but I can absolutely see both mk1 and mk2 being collectible in their own way. For what it's worth, my twin brother absolutely loves the mk1.

If they do in fact keep the Explorer at 36, I think all versions in 39mm will be coveted.

I'm in the same boat! I think the two tone 36mm would be a fun addition. I can't wait to see it in person.

I'm so glad I picked up one from my AD in Feb 2021. Still haven't worn it. Debating if I should hold or sell. What do you guys think?

Congrats on your new Explorer. Most will recommend keeping it because it's a classic. I would say if you absolutely love it, then hang on to it. If you don't love it or haven't bonded with it, then by all means move it on down the road. Depending where you are in your watch journey, most people come to really appreciate the Explorers simplicity and versatility. I would really think on it because once you unload it it'll be hard to ever get a new in box 39mm Explorer. Good luck deciding!

As an owner of a 214270 MKII, I know what my decision is. I'll be keeping mine.

Any guesses where the full lume prices end up settling?

Here’s one that’s NOT for sale. Such a good watch for me - I’m glad I picked it up when it came out.

Now over $12k on DSW. Is he singlehandedly driving up the grey price? If so, I’m here for it.

The grays are sitting on stock and waiting for it to continue to creep up. They will trickle out.

I was thinking about selling mine (mk1) last year. Glad I didn't.

My prediction is they will release a larger version again one day and it will hurt the 39mm resale.

But over the last 20 years, I've never been in it for resale to sell. I'm more concerned about resale as a buyer.
