I have the Black dial version, which I prefer to the D-Blue, but we are all different!

It's normally my daily but it put it in the safe at the end of March when my country went into lockdown. I put it back on last week for the first time and it sure felt thick after the other watches I had been wearing.....but that lasted less than an hour. It's an incredibly comfortable watch that if worn correctly feels the same as any other. It's only one mm thicker than the SD43 and two mm's thicker than my Black Bay. The real issue is that it is heavier, so it does need to be worn snugly. Once it is, it's by far the most comfortable watch on a bracelet that I have ever worn.

After a week back on the wrist, the question I am now asking is "why are all my other watches so thin?"

James Cameron Thickness

I like mine. And I read a ton of threads before buying. Search for 126660 in the topics. You can see a bunch of helpful images.

It’s thick on my 7.25” flat wrist. It would not be my one and only but I’ve been wearing it regularly in rotation. You either like it or you don’t. Wish I could be more help.

Mystro, you have impeccable taste sir!

I'm wearing my first gen JC and still love it. I haven't tried the new bracelet, but I hear it makes the watch even better.

I agree. My first gen JC feels great to me. My wrist is just about 7” but the bracelet adjustment works great. I’ve seen pictures of the second gen JC but I don’t actually see much difference.

Doesn't look like a big watch on you. Looks like a normal watch. I like it for the same reason. It's more proportionate for a big guy than the 40mm Sub, which I think is an iconic watch. I like some watches at smaller sizes but I DO prefer a substantial diver. I like like the DSSD for some of the same reasons I like my Panerai Submersible. Legible and fits me well.

I have a 17cm/6.75 inch wrist and I found this watch to be a little too thick for me. It's a shame because I love the dial on this watch.

Take into consideration:
1) highest engineering in dive watches ever
2) best sapphire glass ever
3) best extension mechanism in clasp ever
4) best dial ever
5) James Cameron story (see Paul Newman)
6) best value for money

Are you still wondering about the thickness?

I was totally against it at first. Owned so many other ones. I got one just today and very pleasantly surprised to be honest.
For some reason tried the YM2 and felt so bulky. This one is just proportionate

Some amazing pix all.

For the technically minded:

Wikipedia.

The Rolex Sea-Dweller deepsea watch case has a diameter of 44.0 mm (1.73 in) mm and a thickness of 17.7 mm (0.70 in) (domed crystal thickness 5.5 mm (0.22 in)), and the case and bracelet weigh 212 g (7.5 oz).

It’s too thick as a daily regardless of your wrist size but it’s a cool watch to have in the rotation to rock once in a blue moon.

That said, the continuous posts/relies about the thickness of the deepsea has me worrying as I haven’t seen it in the flesh nor tried it on. That said, I’m a big guy with big wrists and think I could pull it off regardless

Can you all show some pics from a distance that put the thickness in perspective?!

Thanks!
I bought my deepsea online without ever seeing one....when it arrive it looked like a brick.."got used to it pretty quickly and eventually it was the only watch i wore for 5 yrs......i prefer the more classical 40mm now but enjoyed my dssd very much

James Cameron Thickness

Just got my JC this week. Never thought my 7” wrist can pull it off. I owned a SD43 and ended up not liking the fit and looks. Looks like a Sub on steroids, haha! I tried on the 126660 JC and just fell in love with the dial. No cyclops, real SD! The case, the crystal, the dial and the clasp adjustments are all unique from any other Rolex Sport model. And at a $14k out the door price, it’s a bargain! Rolex over engineered this piece. And as long as the bracelet is sized properly to your wrist, it will wear fine.

I was terrified of the DSSD for everything I had read here on the forum, but from this wonderful forum I can say that most like thin watches and up to 40mm, so DO NOT believe anything bad that you have read here about the DSSD until you made your own opinion. My 17cm (6.7) wrist has been very pleased with the DSSD (black), and the height seems perfect for the most powerful Rolex watch!

Ha ha.
I've been rocking my DSSD every single day for nearly 9 years now. The only way I vary it is with the JC or another watch out of the collection for a few hours for a special occassion.
It's not too thick at all

When it comes to a Rolex, if it's much bigger than a <40 mm offering or thicker than about 14 mm then it's somewhat incomprehensible to some in this day and age

Unfortunately I have to agree with you. In my opinion the James Cameron is the best looking watch Rolex has. however very few people can pull it off. If you are not an extremely large man with an extremely large wrist it just looks plain weird on you no matter how you slice it. Now I realize if the person wearing it doesn’t care that’s really all that’s important. I owned one for a while and absolutely loved looking at it. However it looks like a weapon on my wrist. Something that Batman would use. Like I could push a button on it and flying drones would come out of it and attack people. LOL. It’s just really thick. Anyway as I expand my collection it wouldn’t surprise me if I buy another one someday regardless of how it looks. It’s just that cool in my opinion.
