Macro shots of my Pepsi and Hulk - using iPhone 12 with 30x macro lens no digital zoo

These are taken with only yellow ceiling lights, going to have to invest in LED and maybe a box. But honestly I’m surprised at how viable this is with an iPhone 12

I'd return the phone or wipe the slime off the lens? These are iPhone 4 quality.

I didn’t do focus stacking here so only a portion of the photos are focused haha

They are a bit smudgy cause of the lighting, it would be better with LED

I like these shots actually, I use an iPhone 8 and these photos are far superior than what mine can achieve.

Makes sense. Thought it was either that or you were running full speed on a treadmill while taking these.

Using a light box will not only be more uniform but the additional light will allow the lens to "stop down" and provide good focus across the area being photographed. I'd also recommend a small tripod that you can fit to the iPhone.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I’m planning on getting a light box once renovation is done at my home. I already have a tripod for the iPhone

What do you not like about the photos? Or you just don’t like macro shots in general? Macro lens are very cheap by the way for the iPhone

I like macro shots and find them impressive. Not to bash you, but yours are out of focus too much for my liking. Perhaps a light box may do the trick.
Tried myself as well and results were so poor that I deleted them myself and gave up.

There is a TRF member Jocke with amazing photographic skills. Not only technically but also a good eye for composition. Check out his site watchwallpapers.com. Lot’s of macro shots. Guess most of us can learn a thing or two from him.

It's the indian, not the arrow. Give somebody that knows what they're doing your phone, and they'll take amazing shots. Likewise, a DSLR will be wasted on someone that doesn't know what they're doing.

Yea they’re out of focus. I have to focus stack several to a lot of photos with different focal points for a shot focused across the entire photo. The lens are definitely doing its work though. I’ll check out jocke

Found out that I needed a focusing hood to have more of the photo focused. Below photo uses 30x macro lens plus a focusing hood and 2x optical zoom from iPhone 12, and normal room sunlight. I think this looks better than the ones I posted earlier
