Now this is why I love the internet.

I've learned how to behave when I'm at the Rolex store.

Seems pretty easy to me.

New watch comes out and I like it.
Email details including picture to my SA.
Get confirmation that she received email.
Pick up watch when it is delivered.
Drink a glass of champagne to celebrate.

I think there are quite a few here with established relationships or friends with connections. Happy for you.

For those that don’t have this access, it’s frustrating. I have buy history with a few ad and I still get nothing. I gave up on the game.

Fortunate to have a collection I like and when I want to add, I just go grey if needed. At least the price escalator to the moon has fizzled and many of the pieces I’m interested in have come down nicely and are very tempting.

Good friend of mine was talking to me the other day about something else and said, “Is the f***ing you’re getting, worth the f***ing you’re getting?” We both got a good laugh about it. I think the same applies here.

Good points given in the first post.

I think root cause of this problem is with the grey dealers, flippers, scalpers etc... it would be simple enough to not support this secondary market. One thing I could think is to get rid of the for sales section at TRF.... unless, seller is price below MSRP but that is just wishful thinking.

I heard from a SA that 10 years ago, discounts were given but what really changed from before and now?

I would agree!

I have found, above everything, be yourself.

Most people aren't dense and can feel when something if fabricated and when something is genuine.

I like my SA a lot; he's close in age with me, we both have wives, children and similar interests.

I guess I just find the journey of becoming acquainted with people enjoyable.

After all, what fun would anything be if we didn't have someone pleasant to share it with?

Hilarious OP.

Makes generalizations about ADs not caring on a non-business level, then goes on to describe all the ways to not offend the ADs on a non-business level.

Reality is the sales associates are people. The ADs are businesses with varying strategies for those businesses. If someone is business savvy they will be able to navigate the nuances specific to their particular situation and preferences.

Not really when you factor in how 99% of ADs will bend you over and take you for a ride for the *chance* to get what you want...plus the time you'll spend trying to massage that relationship with calls, texts, emails, or popping in to show your face and walk out empty handed

I'd rather pay a premium and have the watch overnighted to me than try to build a relationship via watches and jewelry I don't want for the *chance*, YMMV

After owning many pieces, and offered most/all commonly requested pieces (did not buy daytona x2, not my style), i will say that there are pieces in the back. SS Subs are very common and received regularly - very regularly. Daytonas are much less common in SS. PM pieces are not hard to get, but dial may not be the one you desire. Bejeweled pieces are rare, and was only offered 1 pave piece. DJ can be had quickly, but again, may not have the dial you desire. Special orders can be made - once you have purchased enough (>100k-200k). Famous individuals are accommodated in different ways - for routine pieces (SS sub for example) - was in the shop and learned about that one day when a famous local client came in.

Got it.

So the person that has the relationship with the AD and flips immediately for profit which DavidSW marks up even further to make his margins . Either way you’re getting bent over my friend.

I'm not interested in any of the new Rolex models with 32xx movements. I've bought all my Rolexes used (fifteen to twenty years old five digit models), had them serviced by the NY RSC, and they've far exceeded my expectations. No waiting lists or buying jewelry to get a purchase history for me.

I have to say l’m somewhat with you on that.

Although I wouldn’t trade my current 31xx Rolex for 32xx, I would be hard pressed to say “no” to some 32xx if offered at retail.

Nah dude, you shove that guy to floor first. Then yell check yoself.

In all seriousness I did have an actual relationship with my SA, we would talk at random about many other non-watch topics. He unfortunately for me moved on to bigger pastures. That AD pretty much iced me shortly after. I went grey mostly from that point on. I have scored an LV from them, but slim pickings for sure.

i'm with sam on this one; david is expensive, but he isn't the only game in town.

i'd MUCH rather let free markets prevail than have to do a song and dance and jig to try to get a watch.

I always ask my AD for a watch first; they are very honest with me and will say yes/no. If no, i go to the free market.

Wish my AD could just charge whatever they wanted, that would end the madness in about 5 mins.
